Anticipation for COHEED AND CAMBRIA’s upcoming release, THE AFTERMAN: ASCENSION, due out October 9, 2012, is in full force, as the band is set to premiere the video for their single, “Domino the Destitute” on August 28 via VEVO, to coincide with the single’s same-day on-sale release. However, eager fans can get a sneak peek of the video and pre-order the ‘deluxe’ box set of the double-album, THE AFTERMAN TODAY, by visiting the band’s website, where they also revealed the album cover art earlier this week!

Fans who pre-order “The Afterman Limited Deluxe Box Set: Amory Award Edition” will receive a download of the single, “Domino The Destitute,” when the video premieres on August 28th, as well as digital downloads of both AFTERMAN volumes, ‘Ascension’ and ‘Descension,’ when they are released, a VIP tour laminate that allows early entry at all Coheed headlining shows, a nearly 2 hour long documentary of Coheed on the road, a 78 page story, lyric, an artwork book, and much more. Visit now. Over 5,000 ‘deluxe’ pre-orders were sold on the first day of availability!

Directed by Robert Schober (Metallica, Mastodon, Disturbed), the eight-minute long epic tells the story of Domino the Destitute a boxer who is fast on the rise, but who’s career comes crashing down in dramatic fashion. Shot in black and white, the video uses classic cinematography and powerful fight scenes, against a powerful performance delivered by Coheed and Cambria throughout the video. Front-man Claudio Sanchez recently explained the theme of the single and video on the band’s facebook page ( When Sirius enters the Keywork, he realizes this energy force is wholly made up of human souls. This is their first contact with a human since they were living – The first soul to take over Sirius, to possess him, is Domino the Destitute. Sirius must now experience Domino’s life as he lived it. Keywork Entity Extraction I.

The storyline behind ‘THE AFTERMAN’ double-album, depicts the life of celebrated cosmonaut/astronomer Sirius Amory, as he embarks on a journey into space, where he makes arguably the greatest scientific discovery known to mankind. Upon his return however, the sudden death of his wife sparks the realization that he allowed what was truly important to him slip right through his hands; and the only mission left for him is to find a way to make amends.

The first volume, ‘Ascension,’ charts Sirius’ sci-fi journey into the stars of the alternate universe known well by Coheed fans as “Heaven’s Fence.” The second volume, ‘Descension,’ shows his fall back to his home planet and the not so warm welcome he receives, followed by a tragedy that unfolds from there.
COHEED AND CAMBRIA are currently overseas for both Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend and will return to the U.S. for a string of intimate performances along the east coast in mid-September (see tour dates below).

Modern progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria’s upcoming sixth studio album will be a double concept album entitled, ‘The Afterman,’ and will be released in two separate full-length volumes. The band made the announcement today via a cinematic video trailer on their official website. The first volume, ‘The Afterman: Ascension,’ will be available on both physical and digital platforms October 9, 2012 via Hundred Handed/Everything Evil, and distributed through Fontana/Ingrooves. The second volume, ‘The Afterman: Descension’ is slated for release in February 2013. The band has also confirmed a handful of intimate Northeast U.S. club shows leading up to the release of ‘The Afterman,’ starting September 13 in Kingston, NY (dates are below).

The trailer, a 90-second black and white classic film-noir style short, from director Robert Schober, depicts a cosmonaut preparing to leave his spaceship for a journey into a mysterious unknown; over an instrumental Coheed and Cambria musical bed. Watch the visual now at

A deluxe version of the ‘The Afterman’ will include a hardcover coffee-table book with expansive art by Heidi Taillefer and Nathan Spoor with collaborative written work from singer/creator Claudio Sanchez and writer Peter David that will create a song by song experience. David previously worked with Sanchez on the prose novel adaptation of the band’s 2010 album “Year of the Black Rainbow,” and the graphic novel adaptation of their 2003 album “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (which reached #4 on the New York Times Bestsellers list for graphic novels earlier this year).” All the band’s titles, including ‘The Afterman,’ fall into a grand sci-fi story arc called ‘The Amory Wars.”

It was announced previously at this month’s San Diego Comic Con that The Amory Wars has been picked up by Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions to be developed into a live-action feature film.

Musically, ‘The Afterman’ sees the band perfecting their powerhouse progressive rock, soul and even pop landscapes. The dual release also marks the return of original drummer Josh Eppard, who the band parted ways with in 2006, bringing with him his benchmark percussive grooves. Coheed and Cambria self-financed and co-produced ‘The Afterman,’ alongside Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner, who produced the band’s first 3 albums, in Woodstock, NY. The album was mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, The Shins, Foster the People) and Ryan Williams (30 Seconds To Mars).

“This is without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written,” says Sanchez. “Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner.” “In the past,” he continues,” I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With ‘The Afterman’ being a new story within the (“The Amory Wars”) arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.”

Coheed and Cambria is currently on the road with rock legends, Iron Maiden.

About The Amory Wars: An epic, sci-fi fantasy set in an alternate universe (Heaven’s Fence) that chronicles the rise of superhuman dictator Wilhelm Ryan, and the one family that could hold the key to liberating the world from his tyrannical reign. The mythology was originally created by Sanchez to serve as inspiration for the band’s albums, but the series expanded to other mediums, including both prose and graphic novels.

About The Afterman: Sirius Amory, the most celebrated astronomer/scientist in the alternate universe of Heaven’s Fence is ‘‘The Afterman.’ Sirius (pronounced “Sy-ruhss”) is credited with the discovery of the energy force (known as The Keywork) that binds the 78 planets of these worlds together. He embarks on the greatest discovery of his existence, and possibly mankind’s. By doing so, what is truly most important to him begins to slip right through his fingers.

New York’s progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria announced today via a statement on their website that Josh Eppard, original drummer for their landmark first three albums, has rejoined the group.

The statement reads, “As the songs for the new record began twisting into shape, it slowly became apparent that these songs were very dynamic, and could flourish with the groove-oriented approach that Josh naturally brings to the table.”

Eppard and the band parted ways in 2006 after Eppard’s issues with chemical dependency; a problem the band has been all too familiar with, as former bassist Mic Todd was arrested in July of this year after allegedly trying to rob a Walgreens pharmacy for opiates.

“We understand there are risks involved bringing Josh back into the fray. Even with his two-years of sobriety, this is a giant leap of faith on our part,” the statement continues, “But at the end of the day, we have all grown up, and we have all been through so much, that playing with Josh again is sort of like coming home. It’s comfortable, it’s familiar, it just feels right… it’s hand in glove.”

The band entered Applehead Studios in NY last week to begin work on their sixth album. For the full statement from the band, (as well as one from Josh) go to
