A message from Free Energy about their upcoming tour:

ATTENTION!!!!
All city rockers, vigilantes, can crushers, posers, snakedancers, rainbow prancers, studio gangsters, and high life livers:

Free Energy is back to heat up the cold streets.

It’s winter. It’s cold. It’s time to dance.

We have some new songs, some old songs, new t-shirts, friendship bracelets, and we might even have some memorable stories to share. But YOU have to come out to a show to enjoy this–the last tour until we unleash the next record.

Folks, it’s face meltin’ time. Put down your snacks and come out to a show. We won’t see each other for a while.
Let’s hug it out.

Sincerely,

FREE ENERGY

The always-energetic Philadelphia-based rockers Free Energy have already made their Halloween plans—they’ll perform three shows leading up to All Hallow’s Eve with special themes, and they’re letting their fans pick the themes! Fans in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose, CA can go to the band’s Facebook page and “like” their favorite theme. The most likes will win the theme for that show date and will be announced Monday 10/25. The themes include Monster Mash (classic werewolf/vampire/mummy), Glam Rock (David Bowie/Gary Glitter), and Back to the Future (where fans choose the era—50s, 80s, the future or the Old West). Also, the band is posting photos on Facebook ( from all their shows and are asking fans to tag themselves in the photos of shows they attend so they can create a tour photo album. New fans can also get a free download of the track “Something in Common” through the band’s “Tweet for a Track” by tweeting HERE.

Canada’s most loveable indie rock outfit, Hollerado, debut their innovative new video for their song “Americanarama,” a so-called “human 8-bit video” that makes astounding use of card stunts and visual trickery that will dazzle and delight the eyes. Loaded with many “how did they do that?” moments like “Human Pong” and “Human Space Invaders” and more, the video is an incredible achievement in low-budget filmmaking.

Hollerado’s Americanarama video was made possible with:
· 420 memorized sequences
· All shot in one extremely slow take
· Days of advanced planning and painting by hand
· 24 stage-hands memorized their own sequence in order for the entire grid to work as a whole.
· Low Budget Awesome!

Director Greg Jardin visually complements the band’s lo-fi, do-it-yourself aesthetic, and it revolves around a simple camera setup capturing an involved choreographed group performance of 24 people and the band. For the shoot, the song was slowed down by 400%, so each take took about thirteen and a half minutes. This was basically the only way that the 24 stagehands would have enough time to hit all of their cues. This meant that the band members had to perform the song four times as slow, which in turn, yielded a jittery, spastically comedic result.

Go here to watch the Filter Magazine exclusive premiere of the video:
http://filtermagazine.com/index.php/media/entry/hollerdo_human_8-bit_filter_premiere

Hollerado is one of Canada’s fastest rising bands, an intensely loveable quartet that’s earned its stripes playing with Dead Weather, Fucked Up, Black Lips, Weezer, Titus Andronicus, Fang Island, Andrew WK and others.

Their debut “Record In A Bag” (Royal Mountain Records/Arts&Crafts) is uniquely packaged on cd/vinyl in actual Ziploc baggies with stickers, prizes and extra goodies, available at http://www.galleryac.com and is also available at all digital outlets.

Hollerado will now set out across North America on tour with Philly buzz rockers Free Energy this fall. See tour dates below:

The last time we went to Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ, we saw the pride of New Jersey, Titus Andronicus. Though the band’s frontman Patrick Stickles no longer resides in Jersey, everyone from Glen Rock and Bergen County still loves him. The band returns to the “best” venue in New Jersey tonight (Starland Ballroom is really far and we hate going to Newark). Free Energy will be supporting on this tour (that’s either a “yay” or “boo” according to how you feel about the indie rockers who like to party). Check out these photos from the last time Titus Andronicus was at Maxwell’s as well as a ton of photos. The show was epic and we’re sure tonight will be as well.
