>AC Entertainment is proud to announce the initial lineup for Moogfest 2011, the annual festival of electronic and visionary music, celebrating the innovative spirit of Bob Moog, inventor of the Moog synthesizer. Taking place Oct. 28 – 30, in beautiful Asheville, NC, Moogfest’s Halloween harvest of musical delights builds on the tremendous success of last year’s reinvention of the Moogfest concept in the city that Bob Moog called home.

This year’s Moogfest lineup highlights a remarkable synergy of classic electronic music pioneers, contemporary groundbreaking artists, and young upstarts who are further pushing musical boundaries. ‘70s innovators, including Tangerine Dream, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Suicide, will present rare US performances as they join a lineup that includes the Flaming Lips, Passion Pit, STS9, Ghostland Observatory, Crystal Castles, Chromeo, Battles, Umphrey’s McGee, Mayer Hawthorne & The County, M83, Holy F**k, Matthew Dear, Twin Shadow, Toro y Moi, The Naked And Famous, Tim Hecker, Anika, Austra, Causing A Tiger, and Gold Panda, with many others still to be announced.

The final Moogfest 2011 lineup will ultimately feature performances by over 60 internationally acclaimed artists in numerous venues throughout downtown, including the Asheville Civic Center Arena, the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and world-renown Orange Peel Social & Pleasure Club. The festival will also host workshops, talks, interactive experiences and art exhibitions and installations.

“Last year’s reinvented Moogfest – the first to take place in Asheville – was an amazing experience – and the response from artists and fans alike was extraordinary,” says AC Entertainment founder, Ashley Capps. “We’re very excited and inspired to build upon that success for the 2011 festival.”

Weekend passes for Moogfest 2011 will go on sale on Saturday, June 4, at 12 Noon Eastern exclusively at www.moogfest.com.

Visit the official festival website, www.moogfest.com, for more information.

You listen to a band’s music, you hear great things about their live performance, you even check out photos online of these past performances that everyone is raving about, but really, you never have a 100% idea of what you’re getting yourself into the first time you check out a band live. This was the case for me and my first encounter with Ghostland Observatory at Terminal 5. I had really enjoyed what I heard on their latest release, Codename: Rondo, heard they were spectacular live, but really had no idea about what to expect after that.

I dreaded having to trek up to Terminal 5 (as I have mentioned previously how much that venue gets on my nerves), but told myself that at least I’d be graced with Mux Mool’s presence in addition to Ghostland’s, so it wouldn’t be ALL that bad.

It wasn’t that bad at all. It was actually a pretty amazing time had by all.

I’m not entirely sure why Mux Mool was first up for the night, because the energy in his performance got the crowed all riled up. People were dancing along and overall just going nuts. Things died down a bit during DJ Jack’s set, but once Ghostland took the stage things took a dramatic change for the best.

I will now try to put into words what seeing Ghostland Observatory is like. If you take both the zealousness and looks of Andrew WK and Russell Brand and made a love child from the two, frontman Aaron Behrens would be their rocktastic bouncing baby boy. In addition to his overall ability to command the audience to dance till they drop, the visuals for this show were out of control. So many lasers. Dare I say Terminal 5 is the only space in NYC that can possibly handle that kind of spectacle. It was as if someone broke into my electronica dreams. It took everything I felt about their music to the next level. I was having a blast. I didn’t want the night to end.

It was around that time that Behrens said, “I’m gonna tell you this because I care about all of you: this is your last chance to dance.” The crowd must have listened closely to his carefully chosen words because they responded accordingly and went wild during the last song.

This was one of the best shows I attended in 2010. If you see that Ghostland Observatory is coming to your part of the universe, you drop everything and you go and dance your face off, you hear me?

Codename: Rondo, the highly-anticipated fourth CD from Austin, Texas based twosome Ghostland Observatory was released today, October 26th, on Trashy Moped Recordings/Sony Red Distribution. Ghostland Observatory is not a band but an agreement between two friends to create something that not only heals their beat-driven hearts, but pleases their rock ‘n roll souls. They have been described as everything from “Freddie Mercury helms Daft Punk” to what you would get if “Rage Against The Machine mated with the Spice Girls.” One could say they are indescribably good. Essentially melding the distinct personalities of its two members – Thomas Ross Turner and Aaron Behrens – Ghostland Observatory continues to produce a style of music that exists first and foremost in their collective consciousnesses – Emile Durkheim would understand. It was recorded with what Turner calls a more linear approach, using fewer sounds while making each one count. The result is equal parts psychedelia, minimal electronic, rock, funk and soul. Indescribably good.

Ghostland Observatory have played major festivals including Lollapalooza, Bonaroo, Coachella and the Austin City Limits music festival, where they headlined. The duo’s legendarily electrifying live shows have captivated audiences across the country. Ghostland is known for over-the-top live shows with zillions of lasers, outlandish dancing and amazing stage power for just two people. In fact Spin Magazine has praised the two for being “a handful both on and off stage, rousing feet and bodies to their electro grooves.”

They are currently on a national U.S. tour in support of Codename: Rondo, the latest album in their collection of genre-bending music. The national tour takes them across the U.S. and to the end of the year, giving their ever-growing league of fans ample opportunity toJazzercise. Ian Traas of Minneapolis City Pages said this in regards to theband’s live show, “For a band with only two members, GLO cranks out a formidable amount of energy, both in terms of Thomas Ross Turner’s throbbingsynth lines and Aaron Behrens’ spastic, shaking showmanship. On paper, the fusion of electro, glam, soul, and garage rock seems comically overstuffed, the product of ADD dilettantes who can’t settle down and focus — but, hearing it (particularly in a live setting), you start to realize that the duo has zeroed in on the libidinous electricity running through each of those genres, distilling it down into something that doesn’t have a name, but sounds as sticky, raw, and hot as sex itself.”
