Gorillaz have been announced to play Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage this year, the band will take to the stage in the headline slot of Friday night. The band were drafted in at the 11th hour after U2 were forced to cancel their scheduled appearance.
“We’re like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the Bay of Glastonbury to save the day. It was us or The Beatles and they split up years ago. The previous soldiers got pulled from duty last minute so it’s up to my Plastic Beach naval cavalry to sail in and sort the battlefield out. I can assure you though, I’m bringing extra troops. Loads of them. Glastonbury will be ours…cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We’re coming in…” Murdoc phoned in from Plastic Beach.
Michael Eavis confirmed the news on the Glastonbury website: “This is going to be Gorillaz’ only UK festival appearance, and it’ll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.
“I’m very excited about Gorillaz’ show coming here because they’re so open to guests and collaborations. The alchemy of Friday’s show is going to be astonishing: a perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations.
Eavis continued, “I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis”.

Bruce Springsteen performed at the Glastonbury Festival this weekend and rocked out, going even 9 minutes beyond curfew resulting in a 3000 pound fine for the festival’s promoter Michael Eavis. It seemed as if it was well worth it as The Boss rocked out for nearly three hours and no one seemed to mind to staying late. Eavis said that he doesn’t mind paying the fine because “he last nine minutes were spectacular.†Check out the setlist from the show below (Note: most glastonbury videos on youtube are being taken down because of copyright restrictions from BBC which aired the concert)

Bono was on BBC Radio 1 where he spoke about U2′s upcoming plans for a world tour. Because of the current state of the economy in the recession, Bono says that ticket prices will be lower for this tour. “We’re trying to work on some cheaper ticket prices because this is the recession. We’re also going to have some very expensive ticket prices, because rich people have feelings too.” Oh Bono, you’re soo funny. In regards to the set up of the tour, U2′s tour might not include as many indoor arenas. Bono said “We’ve got something very special planned…something we’ve been working on for many years, a whole way of trying to do shows outdoors and make them very intimate.”
Bono was also asked about the prospects of U2 playing this year’s Glastonbury Festival:
“I know lots of people who love music want us to play that. It’s something we’re working up our whole life to do. I think that we can commit [to the idea] that we really, really want to do this.”
If U2 somehow ended up playing this year’s Glastonbury Festival, it might be the biggest ever. Maybe not the best, but the biggest.

It’s been confirmed that Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band will headline the Pyramid Stage Saturday June 27th at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Michael Eavis, the show’s organizer said, said “I’m so pleased that Bruce Springsteen has agreed to come to Worthy Farm for the first time. He’s one of the all-time rock legends. I’m confident that this will be one of our best shows ever. He’s also a Barack Obama supporter, which makes two headliners in a row who’ve backed the new President.”
His daughter (who also books many of the bands), Emily Eavis, added, “I’m knocked out that we’ve managed to get Bruce to play. It’s the icing on the cake of this year’s bill, which I’m sure will take everyone’s breath away when we announce the full details.”
If you want to go to the show, tickets are sold out but a few will go onsale on April 5th so be careful of any second hand tickets you buy. Or go here and register by March 31st so that you can buy guaranteed legit tickets on April 5th.
