Having wrapped a three-month summer tour in support of their current album Something For The Rest Of Us, The Goo Goo Dolls have announced that they will continue touring through the fall, launching a new string of dates on October 12th in Milwaukee. Tickets go on-sale this week. Visit for more information.

In other Goos news, the band’s blockbuster single “Iris” has soared to No. 1 on the U.K. iTunes chart after being performed by two finalists on the British edition of The X Factor. In addition, the band’s Greatest Hits album re-entered the chart at No. 18. “Iris” has been a steady seller in Great Britain since its original release in 1998, enjoying more than 433,000 in sales, and racking up more than 30 million views on YouTube. The song is expected to top the U.K. Singles chart this weekend, which would be its highest chart position ever.

“I love the fact that young artists are inspired to sing this song. It opened a lot of doors for us,” says Rzeznik. “To see it hit No. 1 in the U.K. and connect with a growing new audience is cool.”

Finally, the band, which is singer-guitarist Johnny Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac, and drummer Mike Malinin, has just recorded a brand-new song, entitled “The Best Of Me,” which will be heard on an upcoming episode of CBS’s hit remake of Hawaii Five-O, as well as on a soon-to-be released soundtrack album.

Touring in support of their new album, “Something For The Rest of Us” Goo Goo Dolls made a stop Friday night, 07/23/11 at PNC Bank Arts Center. They brought Parachute and Michelle Branch for support. I wasn’t able to see Parachute’s set, but I did get there for Michelle Branch. She came out with her bass player and a guitar player, no drums, no keyboards, just a couple instruments backing her voice. Branch has been around for about 10 years now, so she had a string of solo hits, as well as a couple songs from her time in “The Wreckers” to choose from. Her vocals were strong, and the crowd was enthusiastic, despite the heat and sun beating down on everyone. She played a couple of new songs and everyone reacted positively. Overall she played a fun set and it kept everyone’s energy high.

A short time after her set the house lights went down and the lazer lights came up. The audience erupted in anticipation of the guys from Goo Goo Dolls taking the stage. Goo Goo Dolls was actually the first band I ever saw live, about 13 years ago, so to be there once again shooting the show was almost like coming full circle for me. For a band who has been playing for about 25 years now, they played with strong energy and a lot of smiles. They seemed to really just be happy to be playing for everyone at the show. Of course they played their hits including “Name”, “Broadway” and others. The new songs were met with strong reactions as well. Goo Goo Dolls are one of those bands that has songs that definitely take you back as soon as you hear them.

The guys played a strong set. By the time they played what might be their biggest hit, “Iris” a lot of the audience no longer had dry eyes. They alluded to the fact that last time they were at PNC they were perhaps a little too drunk to play that song correctly, but this time it was flawless.

I had not seen them since the first time, almost 13 years ago, and it was fun to get to see them again. Made me think of being 17 and looking where I am now. I am sure that for a lot of others at that show, they felt transported back by these songs we all knew so well. It was a great night in NJ under the stars. Another great summer night with friends and some great songs.

SWITCHFOOT has teamed up with BIDFIRE (, a competitive shopping site, to offer one lucky fan the ultimate experience: the opportunity to record a song with the band during a deluxe, four-day trip to the group’s hometown of San Diego, CA. The resulting track, recorded in SWITCHFOOT’S home studio, will be released on iTunes and No musical talent is required – the winning bidder can opt to play on the session or just help shape the recording.

“Record a Song with Switchfoot,” BIDFIRE’S first charity auction, will begin on Friday, May 28th, at noon Pacific. Bidder registration is currently underway at Proceeds of this charity auction will benefit StandUp for Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk and homeless youth (

BIDFIRE is a different type of online auction – users purchase bids for $1 and it only takes a single bid to win. The last bid placed when the auction closes wins. Fans are encouraged to reserve their seats since space is limited and the “Record a Song with Switchfoot” charity auction is expected to sell out.

The winning bidder will be flown to San Diego and put up at The Grand Del Mar, a Five Diamond resort. In addition to recording with SWITCHFOOT, they’ll have VIP access to the band’s June 24th show at the San Diego County Fair and the events of the weekend’s 6th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am, including a charity auction at a private home in La Jolla on June 25th and the concert/surf contest on June 26th. The Bro-Am will once again benefit San Diego area chapters of StandUp for Kids. Last year’s event raised more than $100,000 for the charity and drew a crowd of over 7,000. Held at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, CA, the free event will also feature live mural art, beach vendors and more. It will be followed by the Teva Blackout after party at The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. Party attendees will get a firsthand look at the illum, Teva’s new surf-inspired flip-flop. The band recently shot a video to launch the illum, which features a detachable, waterproof LED Pedlampâ„¢, making it ideal for midnight or dawn patrol surf sessions.

SWITCHFOOT returns to the road this week, playing a series of U.S. shows and European festivals before embarking on a tour with the Goo Goo Dolls on July 17th. The group will also perform at Lollapalooza (August 8th) and the Austin City Limits Festival (October 10th). (See below for full tour dates.)

The Sound (John M. Perkins’ Blues),” the second single from the band’s latest album, Hello Hurricane, is currently climbing at radio. The track, which was used in Verizon Wireless’ fall 2009 ad campaign for the BlackBerry® Stormâ„¢ 2, is already in the Top 30 at Modern Rock radio where it’s getting airplay at many major stations. It is the follow-up to lead single “Mess of Me,” which was a Top 15 hit at Modern Rock.

Jon Foreman, lead singer/guitarist for SWITCHFOOT, recently penned his fourth piece for the Huffington Post. You can read the article, entitled “The Dark Horse: Joan of Arc, Elliot Smith and Me,” at:
