JANUS – singer David Scotney, guitarist Mike Tyranski, bassist Alan Quitman and drummer Johnny Salazar – experienced great success with their 2009 debut album, Red Right Return, but the band’s new album, NOX AERIS, reveals how far they’ve come.

That musical revelation is the self-produced NOX AERIS, which drops March 27 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group). The first single, “Stains,” is already getting spins at WIIL (Chicago), KPNT (St. Louis), WBUZ (Nashville), WJJO (Madison), WWBN (Flint), KHTQ (Spokane), as well as SiriusXM’s “Octane” and “Hard Drive XL.” Early feedback includes Zigz at WBUZ (Nashville), who says, “If ‘Stains’ is a taste of things to come… then 2012 is going to be a great year for Janus. They’ve hit a new level with ‘Stains’…this track is righteous.”

“Stains” explores what can happen when you don’t follow your heart, the marks left on your spirit when you become someone you’re not. “It embodies what I was trying to say on the record,” says singer David Scotney, “it’s a dark point of view, but represents a cathartic process of self-healing.”

In 2012 touring news, the band’s first round of tour dates will be with Chevelle and Middle Class Rut starting February 24 in Grand Rapids, MI. Additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

The record’s title, which is Latin for “night air,” comes from the 14th Century, a period where a third of the European population was killed off by the plague. Then, people believed going outdoors at night would cause them to succumb to the Black Death. While writing NOX AERIS, JANUS found this idea to be an apt metaphor for their own journey, preconceived notions of their own being flipped around as they became a bigger, more established band since the release of Red Right Return. NOX AERIS reveals who JANUS is and what they’ve gone through.

Red Right Return came out in September 2009 on REALID Records and spawned the Top 10 Active Rock hit, “Eyesore.” They spent months on the road touring with Chevelle, Sick Puppies, Sevendust, Pop Evil, Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, and Alice In Chains. JANUS also sold-out numerous headlining shows of their own, appeared on MTV’s “Headbangers Ball” and performed in the biggest rock festivals in the U.S., including Rock On The Range. Absolutepunk.net raved about the album: “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm. JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band. If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.” While Away-team.com hailed in a 9 out of 10 album review: “Brilliant on many levels and impeccably engineered and produced to perfection.”

CHEVELLE has just announced new headlining tour dates with Middle Class Rut and Janus. The string of shows by the Chicago alternative hard rock trio kicks off on Friday, February 24 in Grand Rapids, MI, and heads east, making a stop at Irving Plaza in New York City on Wednesday, February 29 and crossing the U.S. before wrapping in Oklahoma City, OK on Friday, March 16.

CHEVELLE–PETE LOEFFLER (Guitars, Vocals), SAM LOEFFLER (Drums) and DEAN BERNARDINI (Bass, Vocals)—recently released their new album HATS OFF TO THE BULL (Epic Records) which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at #19 and is being hailed as one of their finest albums. Its success is being propelled by the explosive first single “Face To The Floor.” With its hypnotic and grinding riff, the song rails against the corporate corruption of Bernie Madoff and Wall Street and is a testament to the band’s songwriting prowess and eternal knack for a hit. “Face To The Floor” continues its reign at the #1 spot at Active Rock radio and is also Top 10 at Modern Rock.

CHEVELLE exclusively premiered the video for “Face To The Floor” last month (12/23) on Vevo.com. The striking performance-based video–directed by P.R. Brown (Mötley Crüe, Smashing Pumpkins, Slipknot)–mirrors the chaotic and economic state currently facing millions of Americans. Watch the clip here: http://vevo.ly/uG43oq.

The ROCKLAHOMA 2010 line-up includes: ZZ Top, Godsmack, Tesla, Buckcherry, Cinderella, Chevelle, Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman, Saliva, Saving Abel, Adelitas Way, Janus, Aranda, Burn Halo, Richy Nix, Shaman’s Harvest, Taddy Porter, Like A Storm, Taking Dawn, New Medicine, Year Long Disaster, Brookroyal, Within Reason, Wildstreet, Firstryke, Krank, The Glitter Boys and more very special guests to be announced!

ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons commented, “As life-long residents of ‘Baja, Oklahoma,’ Dusty, Frank and I are looking forward to making the northward trek to Pryor in May. The idea of sharing the stage with so many great, cutting-edge bands out there today is most appealing. It’s like rock ‘n’ roll summer camp; does that make us campers or counselors?”

“The new vision for ROCKLAHOMA is to draw a much wider rock audience by exploring more sides of the genre,” commented Joe Litvag, Senior Vice-President of AEG Live and Executive Consultant to the ROCKLAHOMA organizers. “This is such an amazing location for a multi-day camping festival, and I’m proud of the fact that we’ve been able to bring together some true icons of rock to perform alongside many of the hottest news and established rock acts in the country! It is definitely going to be a holiday weekend to remember,” Litvag concluded.

These are the elements that really make Rocklahoma a one-of-a-kind rock experience!”

Revolver has described JANUS as a band that sounds like “Deftones getting Disturbed because their Chevelle stalled when the alt-metallers were just 30 Seconds To Mars.”

The Chicago band—-David Scotney (vocals), Johnny Salazar (drums), Alan Quitman (bass), Mike Tyranski (guitar/programming)—will soon be able to show everyone that they live up to such a compliment. Once a current trek of headlining shows concludes, JANUS will perform a month’s worth of dates with Chevelle starting February 8 in Boston at the House of Blues. They’ve been touring non-stop to promote their debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN, since its release September 22, 2009 on REALID Records, through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group.

The album’s explosive first single, “Eyesore,” is currently spinning on over 50 Rock radio stations nationwide, and is approaching Top 20 on the Active Rock charts. A video for the track—directed by Noah Shulman (Sleepless City Productions)–can now be seen on the band’s Myspace and YouTube pages.

“This musically versatile band is locked and loaded for a nationwide takeover…This band is a hard rock dream team.”
–News 4U

“There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm. JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band. If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.”
– Absolutepunk.net

“There’s no need to beat around the bush here–RED RIGHT RETURN is a near flawless affair…the group accomplished with RED RIGHT RETURN what many bands strive for their entire careers. From the tight and pinpoint precision of their musicianship to their enviable and poetic penmanship, Janus are years and years ahead of the pack. RED RIGHT RETURN is an orgasm to 30 Seconds to Mars fans seeking the next generation, so all you bandwagon folks leftover from “The Kill” would be damned not to take a flyer. I’ll digress and give Janus the floor, because they not only deserve your undivided attention, but also earn it with RED RIGHT RETURN.”
–Tunelab.com

“RED RIGHT RETURN is phenomenal, a massive piece of near perfect modern rock sensibilities. This masterpiece is truly driven by outstanding hooks fueled by frontman David Scotney’s vocal multi-tasking…This is as captivating and engrossing as rock records come–it is polished and well produced. There is no doubt that the boys put a lot of time into Red Right Return, and it shows…This is a record that will stick with you, a characteristic many rock albums sadly do not boast. It shouldn’t be long before this Chicago quartet rightly takes their place atop modern rock’s throne. Hell, with how good RED RIGHT RETURN is, they very well might be considered rock music’s ‘it’ band right now. Janus is one of the best modern rock bands on the scene today, and with their talent and an album like RED RIGHT RETURN, these guys might be an unstoppable force.”
