The Watson Twins have announced 15 tour dates in the month of August through West Coast and Mid-West United States. The Kentucky-bred ladies will be touring in support of their sophomore album, Talking To You, Talking To Me, released earlier this year on Vanguard Records. Savin’ You is the first video off the album, an intimate look at the women rehearsing their soulful country tune, which premiered on FILTER Magazine’s website on July 6th. Click here to see the video.

After the critical success of their 2006 collaboration with Jenny Lewis on Rabbit Fur Coat, The Watson Twins released Southern Manners (2006 self-released EP) and 2008′s Fire Songs, their full length debut on Vanguard Records. Unlike their two previous releases, the twins began Talking To You, Talking To Me by exploring elements of R&B, Bossa Nova, indie pop and most prominently, classic soul to mix with the soft, mellow feel of their former releases, resulting in a powerfully sung and performed sophomore album.

With a solid backing band to enforce their powerful harmonies, the twins have no hesitation when it comes to touring. Since their collaboration with Jenny Lewis, there have been scant breaks between touring including a six week outing with Joshua Radin, a Noise Pop appearance along with Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, a SXSW tribute show to Alex Chilton, NPR’s World Café, and a CBS Saturday Show performance. Their live shows are emotional and beautiful, making it hard to miss a single second.

“… The Watsons consult vintage Southern styles for inspiration, incorporating touches of country and plenty of hot-blooded soul.” -SPIN

“Talking to You sounds like an album that is gradually divorcing itself from history and geography, as the Twins learn to build on that West Coast sound to create something unique and personal.” – PITCHFORK

On Sunday night, a new venue officially opened in the LA area called Club Nokia. Jenny Lewis and Beck opened the new venue which apparently has cupholders for people sitting in the balcony area, how swank. Beck played his usual set on his tour while Jenny Lewis played mostly from her new album according to NME. If you want to see some photos and behind the scenes of the new venue, you can check it out here. Meanwhile, you can read a review of the show from Sunday here and check out the videos below.

This weekend if you were in Austin, Texas, you either went to a big football game or to the Austin City Limits Festival. A lot of bands played (a lot of them were shit, I won’t bother you with too much of that) but there were still some shiners out there like the Foo Fighters, the Mars Volta, Jenny Lewis, Beck, Vampire Weekend (eh), and The Raconteurs. Austin 360 had full coverage of the event with pics and a review of every day so go there if you wanna know more. Flyleaf was also there and I wanted to say this about Evanescence, I mean Flyleaf. They’re one of these bands that I can’t see anyone really loving. I mean, you may like a song or two but can you get into them? They bore everyone at The Perv. In fact, on Saturday night, The Perv was out driving and a young insecure looking goth type girl was blasting Flyleaf while texting on her Sidekick. The Perv yelled out “Do you really like that shit or do you know someone in the band?” I can’t see anyone ever playing one of their songs unless it was to demonstrate how much they sound like another band. Anyways, enjoy the videos.
