RCA Records has announced the upcoming release of EP1, the debut EP from Smoke & Jackal. The six-track collection arrives in stores and at all digital retailers on October 16.

EP1 marks the first collaboration between Jared Followill (Kings of Leon) and Nick Brown (Mona). Smoke & Jackal were revealed to the universe earlier today as BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe debuted the EP’s electrifying first single, “No Tell,” officially declaring it to be the “Hottest Record in the World.” A companion video clip for “No Tell” is currently in post-production, with a premiere date to be announced soon. “No Tell,” will be available via iTunes and all digital providers on August 28. Take a listen to it below:

Followill and Brown began recording as Smoke & Jackal earlier this year, fueled by multiple bottles of red wine and a shared fascination with timbre, rhythm, and aural adventure. They set to work at Brown’s Nashville home studio and before the first evening was through, the duo had crafted both “No Tell” and the stunning psychedelic slow jam, “Fall Around.” The two musicians immediately understood they had created something special, an evocative and original melding of oceanic rock with bottomless grooves and hypnotic dub textures. Just over one week later, EP1 was complete. Defined by Followill’s liquid bass lines and Brown’s soaring and expressive vocals, songs like “Road Side” and the closing “Safe Face” are both ingenious and accessible, their surprising soundscapes counterpointed by indelible melodies and haunting hooks. Smoke & Jackal’s EP1 is the sound of two talented friends allowing their music to freely go places no one could have anticipated.

“It was all about tone and vibe and what felt right in that moment,” Brown says. “Not second guessing, just having fun in that moment.”

“Coming together just worked,” says Followill. “I think it’s because we took such an easy approach to it, we didn’t bring any egos to it. We just talked about each other’s ideas, neither one of us got our feelings hurt. It just worked.”

EP1 was produced by Smoke & Jackal, and engineered by Nick Brown. All songs were written by Smoke & Jackal.

RCA Records is excited to announce the release of Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon on November 1, 2011. The release will be available on both standard DVD and Blu Ray as well as digitally via iTunes. The DVD and Blu Ray editions will come with 45 minutes of bonus features including additional scenes not included in the film, two commentaries from the band and filmmakers as well as home-movie footage. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 21, garnered huge praise and was acquired by Showtime, premiering on the network on August 21.

When three teenaged brothers and their cousin rebelled against their strict, religious Southern upbringing to form Kings of Leon, their humble backstory garnered almost as much attention as their music. Many questioned if they were really related and if rumors of their father being a Pentecostal preacher were true. Since then, the band has achieved worldwide, Grammy® Award-winning success and Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon lies to rest the mystery and myths as it details the rise to fame from their bible belt beginnings.

The documentary kicks off at the annual Followill family reunion in the back woods of Talihina, OK, where the boys return to their roots and unwind with their family. First-time director and Followill friend Stephen C. Mitchell weaves personal home videos, unedited interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of the band’s journey from their small-town beginnings — spent in poverty and touring the circuit with their father, a Pentecostal evangelist minister, and their devout mother — to living the rock star dream.

Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon is produced by Casey McGrath for Phear Creative and executive produced by Nathan, Caleb, Jared and Matthew Followill.

RCA Records is excited to announce that the video for the new Kings of Leon single, “Back Down South,” will be premiering on Vevo on May 31. The clip was shot in May an hour south of Nashville, TN, and perfectly captures the spirit of the song as an homage to the south. It was directed by Casey McGrath (Talihina Sky, Pyro) and features the band performing live outdoors in a rural setting in front of a group of lucky members of the KOL fan club as well as kids from the local community. The live footage is interspersed with vignettes depicting teenagers in the American south who all converge at an outdoor party the band is hosting. Like the song, the mood of the video is celebratory, reflective and nostalgic.

Kodak is giving Kings of Leon fans an exclusive first-look at the making-of the music video. Armed with the latest KODAK PLAYSPORT Video Cameras and KODAK EASYSHARE TOUCH CAMERAS, 80 fans spent sun-up to sun-down with the band – capturing exclusive behind-the-scenes HD videos and photos to share using the KODAK Share Button, with their friends and family via Facebook and other social networks. The making-of the Kings of Leon music video documentary is exclusively available from May 26-May31 at Facebook.com/Kodak.

MLB Network will have the exclusive network TV first look of the new video during the Emmy Award-winning MLB Tonight on Monday, May 30, and feature the video intercut with baseball highlights every day through Monday, June 6th across various MLB Network programming.

There’s been a bit of a backlash against Kings of Leon. It may be because they’ve become more radio friendly, some of their cocky comments in magazine interviews or the pigeon shit incident last year. Regardless, people still pay a lot of money and travel far to see them as they did Friday night to catch the band headline the first night of Coachella.

RCA Records is proud to announce that Kings of Leon have received two Grammy nominations in the “Best Rock Song” and “Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals” categories for their hit single, “Radioactive.” This is the band’s third consecutive nomination in both categories. “Radioactive” is the first single from the band’s acclaimed new record Come Around Sundown. It sat atop the Billboard Modern Rock chart for three weeks straight, currently holds the #2 position and has been in the top 5 for over two months. It is #1 on Triple A chart.

Come Around Sundown is Kings of Leon’s fifth album and has sold two million copies worldwide to date. It debuted at #2 on the Top 200 and at #1 on the Digital and Alternative Album sales charts giving the band its largest sales week and highest chart position in its career. The New York Times called it “the rock blockbuster of the season,” and USA Today said the album has “the grandeur and emotional weight that turned the Kings into rock royalty.” Rolling Stone called the band America’s U2 and hailed the new album as “gigantic sounding” in its four-star review.

Besides playing to a sold-out Madison Square Garden on November 16, the band has performed on Saturday Night Live, Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the Today Show on Rockefeller Plaza the day before Thanksgiving. On Late Night, the band acted in a hilarious comedy skit with Fallon himself.

Come Around Sundown is also experiencing huge global success with chart-topping numbers coming in from every country. In the UK alone, the band moved 300,000 tickets in 48 hours recently for shows happening in the spring of 2011, selling out huge dates in such legendary venues as Dublin’s Slane Castle (79,000 tickets sold out in less than hour) and London’s Hyde Park (a second night was added due to overwhelming public demand — and they just played a sold out show there this past June). They also sold out Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, LCCC Stadium in Manchester and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield, all 50,000 plus capacity stadiums. In Europe, they will headline the upcoming Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals in Germany, the UK’s Isle of Wight Festival, Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium, Roskilde Festival in Denmark and Peace and Love Festival in Sweden.
