Today, Matt and Kim release “Let’s Go” (iTunes), the first track off Lightning, their upcoming album out this fall on FADER Label. Recorded and self-produced in Brooklyn, “Let’s Go” is the band’s first original music to be issued in 2012. Following the track’s release, the band will play select summer events across the US, including the Catalpa Festival on July 29th at Randall’s Island in NY.

Matt and Kim were last seen closing out 2011 at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on New Year’s Eve. The show was the grand finale to a wildly successful 16 months, during which the band toured the world and released their third full-length, Sidewalks. The album soared immediately to #1 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and to #3 on the Top 200 Chart. Sidewalks received accolades from SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, and Billboard as Matt and Kim garnered appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Last Call with Carson Daly.

In January of 2012, Matt and Kim disappeared into their home studio where they’ve been hard at work capturing the music for Lightning and building a new stage show.

“We spent the winter here in NY locked in our place on Grand Street,” said Matt Johnson of Matt and Kim. “When not watching Game of Thrones or Downton Abbey, we were self-producing and recording our new album Lightning. We are SO proud of each and every one of these songs that we are going to roll out a few of them over the course of the summer. So here it is, the first song from Lightning, titled “Let’s Go”. Just for us, put this on your iPod, get in the car, roll your windows down, and turn your stereo up!”

Take a listen to “Let’s Go” on Soundcloud or in the “official first listen video” (no, it’s not one of those lame lyric videos, we promise) on YouTube (or watch it below)

Following the release of the brand new song “I’m A Goner” by MATT & KIM, Soulja Boy and ANDREW W.K. for the brand’s Three Artists. One Song collaboration, Converse released the zombie film-inspired music video which premiered during the airing of the “MTV2 Presents: Converse Band of Ballers” basketball tournament on August 21, 2011. The video was created by Converse with partners including Anomaly, Cornerstone and the acclaimed director Rodney Ascher via Greenpoint Pictures and features all of the artists, their fans and close friends as zombie versions of themselves partying along to the anthem of the summer in an abandoned hospital in New Jersey.

“I’m A Goner” is a song that we want people to dance to,” said Matt Johnson of MATT & KIM. “I feel the video concept works great with the song: they’re both about being fun with a darker twist. And let’s face it, I’m into anything with lots of fake blood!”

The original track was produced by Matt Johnson of MATT & KIM and is the product of these dynamic artists weaving together their individual musical styles to create one unified piece of music. Critics from SPIN, Nylon and New York Magazine among others have been among the many that are praising the song’s fresh and infectious sound.

Be forewarned, Matt and Kim declare war on dull nights out during their official SIDEWALKS headlining US tour, kicking off May 28th at the Sasquatch Music Festival and including Bonnaroo on June 10th. It’s the official tour in support of their third full-length, Sidewalks, out now via FADER Label, and the plan is to tear every playhouse down.

Each show will be a full night of dance debauchery and next day regrets. But Matt & Kim will not be alone; THE THERMALS are coming along too, and DJ AUTOBOT from FLOSSTRADAMUS will be carrying the nonstop dance party through the evening and between bands. Put on some clothes you don’t care about getting dirty, and for fuck’s sake, get there on time.

As a precursor, Matt & Kim head to Austin for SXSW to appear at the mtvU Woodie Awards, Wednesday March 16, where their notorious show has gotten them nominated for a “Live Performance Woodie”. Oh, those awards air live March 16th at 12AM ET/PT on MTV, mtvU, and MTV2. Plan to rage with them on Thursday as they close MTV’s celebration party and on Friday at the FADER Fort.

This past January, the video for the first single, “Cameras”, premiered exclusively on MTV. Despite a practice space brawl of threatening proportions, miraculously, no tour dates were canceled.

Head over to http://www.mattandkimmusic.com/ or www.myspace.com/mattandkim. All the dates, tour information and links are there. Check out the new special tour announcement video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aVBdB7EVE8

One of our favorite live bands is NY’s very own Matt & Kim. We loved their most recent album Sidewalks sooo much that we want YOU to have a copy. We realize that some of you audiophiles (and audio pervs) don’t love CDs and prefer VINYL. Then again, some of you prefer CDs and/or don’t have a record play. That’s why, we’re go to let the winner choose the format: VINYL or CD!

To win the album, leave a comment below raving about how much you love Matt & Kim and we’ll email you back asking for your address and if you want Sidewalks on CD or Vinyl. Good luck!
