JANUS – singer David Scotney, guitarist Mike Tyranski, bassist Alan Quitman and drummer Johnny Salazar – experienced great success with their 2009 debut album, Red Right Return, but the band’s new album, NOX AERIS, reveals how far they’ve come.

That musical revelation is the self-produced NOX AERIS, which drops March 27 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group). The first single, “Stains,” is already getting spins at WIIL (Chicago), KPNT (St. Louis), WBUZ (Nashville), WJJO (Madison), WWBN (Flint), KHTQ (Spokane), as well as SiriusXM’s “Octane” and “Hard Drive XL.” Early feedback includes Zigz at WBUZ (Nashville), who says, “If ‘Stains’ is a taste of things to come… then 2012 is going to be a great year for Janus. They’ve hit a new level with ‘Stains’…this track is righteous.”

“Stains” explores what can happen when you don’t follow your heart, the marks left on your spirit when you become someone you’re not. “It embodies what I was trying to say on the record,” says singer David Scotney, “it’s a dark point of view, but represents a cathartic process of self-healing.”

In 2012 touring news, the band’s first round of tour dates will be with Chevelle and Middle Class Rut starting February 24 in Grand Rapids, MI. Additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

The record’s title, which is Latin for “night air,” comes from the 14th Century, a period where a third of the European population was killed off by the plague. Then, people believed going outdoors at night would cause them to succumb to the Black Death. While writing NOX AERIS, JANUS found this idea to be an apt metaphor for their own journey, preconceived notions of their own being flipped around as they became a bigger, more established band since the release of Red Right Return. NOX AERIS reveals who JANUS is and what they’ve gone through.

Red Right Return came out in September 2009 on REALID Records and spawned the Top 10 Active Rock hit, “Eyesore.” They spent months on the road touring with Chevelle, Sick Puppies, Sevendust, Pop Evil, Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, and Alice In Chains. JANUS also sold-out numerous headlining shows of their own, appeared on MTV’s “Headbangers Ball” and performed in the biggest rock festivals in the U.S., including Rock On The Range. Absolutepunk.net raved about the album: “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm. JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band. If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.” While Away-team.com hailed in a 9 out of 10 album review: “Brilliant on many levels and impeccably engineered and produced to perfection.”

CHEVELLE has just announced new headlining tour dates with Middle Class Rut and Janus. The string of shows by the Chicago alternative hard rock trio kicks off on Friday, February 24 in Grand Rapids, MI, and heads east, making a stop at Irving Plaza in New York City on Wednesday, February 29 and crossing the U.S. before wrapping in Oklahoma City, OK on Friday, March 16.

CHEVELLE–PETE LOEFFLER (Guitars, Vocals), SAM LOEFFLER (Drums) and DEAN BERNARDINI (Bass, Vocals)—recently released their new album HATS OFF TO THE BULL (Epic Records) which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at #19 and is being hailed as one of their finest albums. Its success is being propelled by the explosive first single “Face To The Floor.” With its hypnotic and grinding riff, the song rails against the corporate corruption of Bernie Madoff and Wall Street and is a testament to the band’s songwriting prowess and eternal knack for a hit. “Face To The Floor” continues its reign at the #1 spot at Active Rock radio and is also Top 10 at Modern Rock.

CHEVELLE exclusively premiered the video for “Face To The Floor” last month (12/23) on Vevo.com. The striking performance-based video–directed by P.R. Brown (Mötley Crüe, Smashing Pumpkins, Slipknot)–mirrors the chaotic and economic state currently facing millions of Americans. Watch the clip here: http://vevo.ly/uG43oq.

AWOLNATION played to a nearly sold out crowd at Webster Hall in New York City, and proved to everyone there that they’re constantly improving as a live band, even in the short amount of time from their sold out show at Bowery Ballroom this past July. It’s a true testament to the bands incredible amount of talent when I say that I actually enjoyed them more in the nearly three times as large venue, in main part to the bands energy on stage, as well as the energy the crowd put out.

Opening the show was alternative band Twin Atlantic, all the way from Glasgow. This four piece rock band puts out a lot of sound, and there were actually a small group of people who came to the show just to see them. It’s easy to see why, the band is great, particularly the song “You’re Turning Into John Wayne”. The band has supported numerous massive bands on their UK tours such as Biffy Clyro, Blink-182, and Smashing Pumpkins, and the confidence they’ve gained from this shows. Their 30 minute set gained a lot of new fans, with many asking their neighbor for the band’s name after they were done.

Next up were Middle Class Rut, a rock duo from Sacramento who made the far too overused combination of a drummer and guitarist unique by trading vocals throughout their set. They put out an incredible range of sound for just two people, mainly due to guitarist Zack Lopez’ extensive use of effects pedals. For some reason, lately it seems like there’s one guy at every show who wants to be a jerk to the openers, and this show was no exception. Drummer Sean Stockham, addressed the issue by stating “this song is about assholes who chant for the headliners while the opening band is playing” and throwing his drumstick at the guy. Their 40 minute set went smoothly otherwise, and again, it seems that they left with many more fans than they entered with.

Finally, AWOLNATION took the stage to the intro song “Megalithic Symphony”, sending the crowd into a frenzy, and when Aaron Bruno took to the microphone to sing “Jump On My Shoulders” the place seemed ready to explode. It wasn’t long before Aaron was in the crowd singing, though he didn’t quite make it back to the stage on the return trip. Instead, he fell into the photo pit, however he never once missed a beat, despite obviously being in pain. Throughout the night, he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. When he said “jump”, the crowd happily obliged and the floor was literally bouncing up and down from it. It was obvious that many people were there to hear the massive single “Sail” and had no clue what the crowd would be like, which led to Aaron instructing people on proper pit etiquette, demanding that people pick up any who falls right away.

During the slower number “All I Need”, Aaron instructed the crowd to “put their arms around whoever was next to them and get fucking weird for a bit”. A new song entitled “Joke” was next, though before the band started playing it, Aaron said that the band had a bet going on throughout the tour. In fact, the members were betting on which city would have the most girls crowdsurf during one song, sparking a wave of at least 10 crowdsurfers during it. The song everyone was there for, “Sail”, followed and included an extended guitar solo from Christopher Thorn. The always raucous and crazy “Burn It Down” followed and closed the main set, though it was clear no one was letting them leave without returning for an encore.

The band returned quickly to play the 15 minute epic “Knights of Shame”, which is where the band really shows what they’re all about. This one song encompasses every style that the band have all in one adrenaline fueled burst, whether it be the bit of rap, soul, electronica or heavy rock. This is what makes this band so unique – every song sounds different, and every member have a totally different look and style of playing, yet when it all comes together it just works. Towards the second half of “Knights of Shame”, Aaron traded places with drummer Hayden Scott and drummed for the rest of the song. And just when it seemed like the show was over, the band played about a minute of the riff from Rage Against The Machine’s “Bulls On Parade” to close everything out. Reluctantly, the crowd shuffled out of the venue, thought this was not a show that they’ll soon be forgetting.

AWOLNATION has announced the “AWOLNATION Fall Harvest” headlining concert tour in support of their debut album Megalithic Symphony (Red Bull Records), with Middle Class Rut and Twin Atlantic to support. Throughout the tour the band will be working with local community food banks to establish a food drive at each show, benefiting area families in need. Returning to the states after a European tour run, the band recently performed an energetic set at the Austin City Limits Music Festival that had singer Aaron Bruno literally sailing across a sea of 40,000 fans. The band has also confirmed additional dates through November in the U.S., and will be performing two shows with Incubus on October 11 in Sacramento, CA and October 15 in Irvine, CA. Since the release of Megalithic Symphony, AWOLNATION have been traversing the globe playing sold out, turbo-charged shows in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

The band is currently offering two free mp3 downloads online featuring the epic album-closing track “Knights of Shame” available exclusively on their website at AWOLNATIONMUSIC.com and a live version of “People” recorded at La Zona Rosa in Austin, TX, only on Facebook.

The band’s runaway radio juggernaut “Sail” has been Top 5 on the Alternative Songs charts for five weeks straight, is currently climbing the Active Rock chart and has cracked the Top 40. “Sail” hit #1 in Canada and was recently certified platinum. The track is currently being used in promos for the upcoming season of the FOX television drama House. The band’s debut album Megalithic Symphony, featured on iTunes as one of the “Great Albums of 2011,” continues it’s 26 week run on the Billboard charts, topping the Alternative New Artists chart. Megalithic Symphony is currently available at retailers everywhere and online.

Sacramento-based Middle Class Rut artfully blurs the line between heavy and melodic with raw, energized rock and roll. The group’s two members, Sean Stockham (vocals, drums) and Zack Lopez (vocals, guitars), have been playing together since they were teenagers. The pair records every song they write together almost immediately in their rehearsal space, capturing the instantaneous spirit of a track while still in the moment. They’ve toured with a range of artists like Social Distortion, Alice in Chains, Them Crooked Vultures, The Bronx and …Trail Of Dead.

Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, Twin Atlantic is out in support of its critically lauded debut full-length, FREE, which was recorded at Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica, CA with legendary producer Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Pixies, Jimmy Eat World). Free, the follow up to the well-received debut EP, Vivarium, continues to expand upon the band’s signature sound, melding angular riffs with energetic choruses. Explosive and hard charging, yet melodic and thoughtful, the tracks cut deep and ring true to the listener, leaving a lasting impression. This will be their second tour of the U.S.

Fast-rising Sacramento-based rock duo Middle Class Rut continues to gain momentum following the release of their widely praised debut album, No Name No Color (Bright Antenna/ Independent Label Group). No Name No Color earned them the title of “2011 Artist to Watch” by MTV, who declared it “an accomplished full-length full of Led Zeppelin-like dirges and socio-politically charged anthems.” In addition, the album’s first single, “New Low,” which reached #5 at Alternative Rock Radio, brought the band to the attention of USA Today, which profiled MC Rut in its “On the Verge” section. View the video for “New Low” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5GYOsKLp6o

Already a word-of-mouth sensation for their incendiary, aggressive live shows and massive sound, MC Rut will be hitting the road hard this summer, including European dates with Linkin Park starting June 10 in Stockholm, Sweden and three weeks of dates on the Vans Warped Tour starting on July 21 in Camden, NJ (scroll down for complete tour dates). In addition, the duo has announced that they’ll be releasing their second single, “Busy Bein’ Born,” in mid-May as well as an accompanying video.

MC Rut has been eagerly embraced by rock fans and the press for their stunning debut, which artfully blurs the line between heavy and melodic with raw, energized rock and roll. But their success didn’t happen overnight. The duo, Zack Lopez (vocals, guitar) and Sean Stockham (drums), have been playing together since they were teenagers. The pair records every song they write together almost immediately in their rehearsal space, capturing the instantaneous spirit of a track while still in the moment. They’ve toured with a range of artists, including Social Distortion, Alice in Chains, Them Crooked Vultures, The Bronx and …Trail Of Dead.

Sacramento’s MIDDLE CLASS RUT–SEAN STOCKHAM (vocals, drums) and ZACK LOPEZ (vocals, guitars)—has ventured out on their first U.S. tour in support of their debut album, NO NAME NO COLOR, which was released October 5 on Bright Antenna Records through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group. The duo’s trek—as openers for Filter–launched October 24 in Tyler, TX and lasts through November 12 in St. Paul, MN.

The first single, “New Low,” has been added to radio stations across the country including Sirius XM’s “Alt Nation” (Sirius 21/XM 47), Live 105 (San Francisco), Q101 (Chicago), 99X (Atlanta), KPNT (St. Louis), KNDD (Seattle), KRBZ (Kansas City), KEXX (Phoenix), WLUM (Milwaukee), WRZX (Indianapolis), 89X (Detroit), and many more. “New Low” is now one of the most requested new songs in Seattle, Kansas City, Tucson, Rochester, Albany, Detroit, Colorado Springs, and Milwaukee. And as BBC Radio One’s Zane Lowe proclaimed: “‘New Low sounds SO fresh…let’s make history with Middle Class Rut.”

A video for the song premiered on MySpace in September as part of their selective “Introducing…” monthly program with FUSE. Now comes word that MTV2 and mtvU have added “New Low” into rotation, and the song has been added to the short list of artists that will be featured in the next round of the prestigious “Discover & Download” program. Fans will be able to download “New Low” for free at http://www.mtv.com/music/discover_download/.

MIDDLE CLASS RUT’s music artfully blurs the line between heavy and melodic, showcasing the band’s skill for raw, energized rock and roll that is equally complex and immediate. The record is enormous and rowdy, propelled by the duo’s ability to make heavy music tasteful and accessible. Opening number “Busy Bein’ Born” represents the rest of the disc, setting a tone and pace for the impassioned tracks that follow.

NO NAME NO COLOR compiles 12 songs from a span of several years, showcasing a breadth of time without ever losing its clear impression of cohesion. A few tracks have appeared previously on the band’s three EPs, which they released in 2007, 2008 and 2009, but the album as a whole is a new construction that reveals a band with a unique creative process. The majority of the songs have been tested on the road during tours in the U.S. with Social Distortion, Them Crooked Vultures and Alice In Chains, and in Europe with The Bronx and …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.

As Alternative Press raved: “There may only be two of them, but the amount of noise Middle Class Rut make is phenomenal. Not only that, they’re proof that you can stick to your guns, keep your integrity and still be successful.”
