On a typical hot and humid day in Houston, the Honda Civic tour feat MuteMath, Incubus and Linkin Park came rolling through and heated things up a bit more. This shorter than average summer tour had been the talk of the town amongst the locals and critics alike.

MuteMath kicked things off with a short 30 minute set. Despite the heat, the band came out decked in business-casual attire and got the crowd a lil more sweaty. For a 30 minute set, MuteMath did a great mix of songs off all 3 of their albums, ending their set with the infamous “Reset”.

Incubus, the touring kings, were up next and this was such a special treat, because the band is planning on taking a break for a little bit after this tour. These guys have toured for many years non-stop and are some of the most seasoned performers I’ve seen to date.

About halfway during their set, Brandon Boyd said “Hello Dallas”, which is where they played the previous night. Though there were some immediate boos, Brandon quickly realized his mistake and apologized. Lead guitarist Mike Einziger then stated an interesting fact. “Wow, after 21 years of being a band, that has never happened”. Immediately boos turned into applause.

Towards the end of the set, Incubus added their own renditions of “Hello” by Lionel Ritchie and “I Need You Tonight” by INXS, which sounded unexpectedly awesome and received an immediate positive response from those in attendance.

Linkin Park took the stage right on time and opened up with “A Place For My Head”. These guys thrive off the live show and the response the crowd gives them. Mike Shinoda said multiple times how much he loved the response Houston was giving. All members were in great form and Chester’s voice was impressively young sounding as if all those years of touring and screaming every night have had no effect on his voice.

Lights and sound effects certainly complimented the show and the stage set up was shown off even more when lots of fire effects were shown off when the band performed “Burn it Down”.

What really got my blood flowing was when Chester integrated “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys, into “Bleed it Out”. Aggressive rhymes and scratchy yells complimented this song so well and the crowd went nuts.

Performing a great mix of classics and some newer material, it was another great Honda Civic tour that should not be missed. This is only a 20 date tour which is coming quickly to an end. Make sure to catch it if it comes by your area.

The Honda Civic tour has returned again this summer with its most solid lineup yet featuring co-headliners Linkin Park and Incubus. Mutemath will be the support band. The tour will be hitting several amphitheaters across the country.

Linkin Park’s newest release Living Things debuted at #1 this June. In a recent conference call interview, lead singer Chester Bennington talks about the significance of the milestone: “I’ve always felt that we just made the best record that we could make at the time. So for people, for our fans, it’s really more of a testament to our fans than to us. It really is a testament to how enthusiastic our fan base is about what we do in the studio.”.

For Incubus, for the first time without a label since the mid-90s, this tour might be their last for a while. Frontman Brandon Boyd remarked that “we’ll probably take another break. Hopefully it won’t be as long. But what we like to do is arrive with the best of intentions and try and create music from a sense of urgency as well as purity and not necessarily based on a schedule.”

Both Chester and Brandon agree that their mutual respect for each others bands and shared fan base made the idea of touring together a no-brainer.

Chester: “…it feels like I’ve probably tried to figure out a way to get Linkin Park and Incubus on the road together at least once per cycle since probably Meteora. It just goes to show how difficult it can be to actually get two headlining groups together. ”

Brandon: “We have a lot of mutual listeners, of our bands, and I think that it’s one of those things that once the idea was floated, and we really kind of caught onto it, that it seemed like, ‘Why haven’t we done this yet?,’ type of a thing.”

Temporary Residence Limited, the long-standing indie label known for their eclectic roster which includes Explosions In The Sky, Pinback and the Books, is pleased to announce Canon Blue, the orchestral pop outfit spearheaded by American multi-instrumentalist Daniel James, is hitting the road for a extensive national tour supporting Mutemath. The tour, which hits all major and secondary US markets, kicks off January 26 with performances at The House of Blues in Houston, TX.

Since its release in August, Canon Blue’s latest full-length offering, Rumspringa, has received glowing praise; from NPR’s Top 5 Must-Hear Discoveries of 2011, to a New York Times review, a music video premiere on Interview Magazine and a WXPN “Next 20″ band to watch nod, just to name a few. Rumspringa is available now via Temporary Residence.

Canon Blue: “Rumspringa” by wearesolidgold

After recording the record’s skeleton in Copenhagen with the aid of Efterklang, James traveled to Iceland to record orchestral arrangements with renowned string quartet Amiina (most famously recognized as Sigur Rós’ string section). The expansive, gleeful result is an ingenious combination of the old and the new, a lush minimalism that allows James’ graceful lyrics to float through the air as if time is suspended. Thesongs combine the soulful intimacy of Jeff Buckley and the playful whimsy of Sufjan Stevens with the stately meditation of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

Canon Blue’s auspicious beginnings are rooted in the 2007 debut album, Colonies, a bedroom electronic folk collaboration with Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor. The upcoming recordsees James fully realizing his role as both composer and songwriter, something he has learned through his years on the road. Having explored the world and explored his own musical potential and desires, this is the result-a record that is neither new nor old, neither completely contemplative nor completely giddy, but certainly complete, and certainly a wonder to behold.
