Saint Motel never fail to put on a show that’s a treat for the senses

From radio airplay on Los Angeles’ KROQ to a headlining show at The Roxy… Saint Motel has been generating a substantial amount of buzz throughout the music scene ever since the band released their debut album, ForPlay, earlier this year.

Along with a penchant for combining elements of this decade’s hitmakers into one explosive rock package, the Los Angeles quartet Saint Motel have a sense of humor… but make no mistake,
they are deadly serious about making music that transcends the boundaries…

In Nico Vega’s new animated music video, the band go back in time to a “Crucible” inspired Salem Witch Trial where they’re persecuted for honoring their beliefs of individuality and freedom. Will Nico Vega face the gallows or will their ideals save them from their Puritanical Captors? The video was shot entirely on an iPhone 3G with original artwork by Sascha Ciezata. Watch It – HERE:

Nico Vega, the Los Angeles trio, enlisted the help of the “mini-Nico Vega band” (actually guitarist Rich Koehlar’s niece and nephew and their neighbors) while on a tour stop in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Set to the band’s first single, “Gravity,” the vibrant rockers show a fun side to the hardworking touring band in this video (shot primarily on an iPhone) directed and edited by the band themselves. See it here:

Fresh off appearances with Metric, Chevelle, Papa Roach, Codeine Velvet Club, Semi-Precious Weapons, After Midnight Project, Neon Trees and Sweethead, the band has been working aggressively on new songs for their next album! Stay tuned and check out for updates.

Sweethead, the new group created by Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, Failure) and fronted by lead vocalist Serrina Sims, released their debut album last month (The End Records) and just announced a handful of new dates in the western US with Nico Vega and Scarlet Grey.

Sweethead also features Eddie Nappi on bass (Mark Lanegan Band, Handsome), and Norm Block on drums (Mark Lanegan Band, Plexi) and the band recently took up residency at LA’s Spaceland before jetting to Europe and the UK for a series of festival performances and headline club dates. The band starts back up in the US on July 14 in Los Angeles and currently wraps in Seattle, Washington on July 22.

Flavorpill remarked that the album is, “Heavy, seductive , fast, and a little sharp around the edges…” and that lead vocalist Serrina Sims is “already earning comparison to some of the hardest rocking leather-clad rocker chicks around (think Chrissy Hynde and Joan Jett in a Russ Meyer fight scene).”

Sweethead’s latest video for the track “Traumatized and Dumb” can currently be seen on Vimeo here

“The four piece sports an alum of Queens of the Stone Age, but the attraction here is singer Serrina Sims, a platinum-tressed piranha of a frontwoman at home on gleefully brutal bangers as much as snazzy punk blitzes. They’re named for a Bowie B-side, and while they hit a bit harder than Mr. Stardust, they share his pan-sexual swagger.”

29 Oct

L.A. buzz band Nico Vega is currently on a headlining tour, including a homecoming Halloween show at Club Nokia with rockers Chevelle, before jumping on tour with Inward Eye, and Neon Trees.

As the trio’s latest single “Gravity” is taking off on alternative radio, the group will be filming the song’s video in November.

The band (singer Aja Volkman, guitarist Rich Koehler and drummer Dan Epand) has made a name for itself thanks in part to its blistering and in-your-face live show highlighted by dynamic frontwoman Aja Volkman’s volatile stage presence. Filter described the band as “a musical, mythical beast” while 944 Magazine heralded them as a “brutal love triangle of rock, funk and blues” and congratulated the trio for its “wide musical scope, which stretches from stomach-scraping soul to unrelenting rage.” The NY Post called Aja “insanely spirited,” comparing her to Janis Joplin and Karen O.

Having worked with producers Linda Perry (Pink, Gwen Stefani) and Tim Edgar (Earl Greyhound), and mixer Tchad Blake (Pearl Jam, Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel), Nico Vega channels a classic swagger a la Led Zeppelin and adds soaring, soulful vocals somewhere between Fiona Apple and PJ Harvey.

Over the summer the band’s song “Beast” was featured in the horror film The Collector and now Aja is preparing to leap headfirst onto the silver screen herself, making her acting debut co-starring in the upcoming Dane Cook movie Answers To Nothing where her shockingly gritty scenes will definitely not be forgotten anytime soon. Aja will play Tara, the mistress who is also a musician, and Nico Vega will sport cameos in the movie.
