After a triumphant return to the stage this fall, Passion Pit will finish out this year with a small European tour and a series of U.S. radio dates.

Passion Pit is featured on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 soundtrack, with an original track titled “Where I Come From.” The song is featured in the beginning of the film (out Nov. 16th), and you can preview it now on iTunes.

Today Pitchfork premiered a track from Passion Pit’s upcoming release Gossamer. The R&B influenced jam is called “Constant Conversations”, listen now here

On July 24th, Columbia Records will release Gossamer, the highly anticipated follow-up to Passion Pit’s critically acclaimed 2009 debut album Manners. The album will be comprised of 12 new tracks that showcase Michael Angelakos’ ever-expanding lyrical talents and bring to life his trademark irresistible beats (see full track listing below). Gossamer was made throughout 2011 in Los Angeles and New York City, and again finds Angelakos working with Manners producer Chris Zane. The Boston Herald raves that with “a stunning new album…Passion Pit is about to outgrow the electro fad. The album is an artistic breakthrough — pure pop hasn’t had this much depth since Prince’s golden age — and it’s bound to be a commercial one as well.”

Passion Pit, already known for their energetic and rapturous live performances, will be on tour following the release by Columbia Records of the new album Gossamer on July 24th. Their summer will be filled with festival appearances (including Lollapalooza, Firefly, Outside Lands and the Jay-Z curated Made In America festival) and then the band will kick off a headlining North American tour through November (see dates below).

Passion Pit is the dynamic musical project of Michael Angelakos, the electronic wunderkind renowned for his complex and multi-layered pop songs. Angelakos debuted the notoriously charming EP Chunk Of Change in 2008 before releasing Passion Pit’s debut full length Manners in 2009.

Columbia Records and The Creators Project have announced that Passion Pit and director David Wilson of Colonel Blimp have collaborated on the music video for the band’s triumphant first single, “Take A Walk.” The video, which will debut on TheCreatorsProject.com a digital platform dedicated to arts and technology by VICE and Intel, was shot in Philadelphia, PA last month using first-of-its-kind helicam technology developed by SnapRoll Media.

Watch “Take A Walk” on TheCreatorsProject.com here or below: http://bit.ly/TakeAWalkVid

Inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s animated short “Jumping,” David Wilson expressed his interest in capturing a live version of the film’s bouncing animation with a helicam. Passion Pit’s “Take A Walk” was a natural fit, as Wilson immediately connected with the rhythm of the music. As Wilson explains, “it was the desire to echo the seamless rhythm in the song with the camera bounce that drew me to this bespoke helicam capable of creating such a smooth bounce.” With the support of The Creators Project, a global initiative dedicated to supporting artists in realizing their creative visions through technology, David Wilson and Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit tackled the challenge of conceptualizing a narrative based on the song’s lyrics and the capability of the helicam’s tailored movements.

“Essentially, we were able to achieve moves with the camera that I haven’t seen before; the bounce is something that really differentiates this from any helicam video I’ve seen before,” explains Wilson. “Making that a reality was a challenge; there’s a reason a camera hasn’t been bounced via mini helicopter before.” Their efforts paid off, as the bouncing nature of the video replicates both the booming rhythm of “Take A Walk” and Angelakos’ attempts to rise above the troubles weighing him down.

The content of the video was shaped over conversations between Wilson and Angelakos about the extremely personal nature of “Take A Walk,” in which Angelakos struggles with the modern-day issue of maintaining a sense of self and family amongst the trappings of materialism. In the lyrics, Angelakos weaves the personal stories of various family members into a more universal tale, exploring both the agony and ecstasy of self-realization. In spite of these struggles, Passion Pit’s upcoming release Gossamer (out July 24th on Columbia) is ultimately a search for hope. The album represents a natural, yet stunning, progression from the band’s earlier work.

A making-of video for “Take A Walk” will also premiere on TheCreatorsProject.com, check back in next week for more…

Acclaimed for their unabashedly danceable live performances, Passion Pit warmed up for the upcoming release of Gossamer with a series of shows last month. Expanding to two days in its second year, the festival will take place on June 23rd and 24th, providing attendees with a full weekend’s worth of good times and great music spread across two stages with no overlapping sets. Building upon the inaugural year line-up that focused on Dance, Hip Hop, and Electronica, Governors Ball 2012 will also incorporate Indie Rock, Americana, and Pop acts. There will be a distinct vibe to each day, with Saturday mirroring the lineup featured at Governors Ball 2011, and Sunday’s bill focusing primarily on the expanded genres. Single and Two Day tickets will be available, as well as VIP packages.

A limited quantity of Pre-Sale tickets for the event will go on sale this Wednesday, February 22nd at 5 am EST via Living Social. A direct link to this pre-sale will be made available on GovBall.com.

General On Sale will begin Friday February 24th at 10 am EST via GovBall.com and feature a limited amount of Advanced Purchase GA tickets.

The expansion of Governors Ball in both number of days and variety of performers further establishes the festival as the premier gathering for music fans, not only in New York City, but the entire Northeastern United States. This coming years festival will also be moving to Randall’s Island Park, an oasis of green space on the East River, nestled between East Harlem, the South Bronx, and Astoria, Queens. Founders Entertainment is excited about the opportunities presented by the new location including improved venue facilities and expanded transportation options for attendees. In addition to being accessible by bus, foot, bike, car, and cab, the festival will provide shuttle bus service from Williamsburg Brooklyn, and ferry service from Mid-Town Manhattan to and from the festival grounds. The venue will be limited to a capacity of 25,000 per day, creating a unique and intimate festival experience when considering the world-class artists on the bill, and Governors Ball’s location within the largest metropolitan area in the United States.

Beyond amazing performances from some of today’s premier musicians, Governors Ball 2012 will feature unique art installations throughout the festival from local and international artists. Highly regarded New York City based food trucks and restaurants will be on hand to provide a variety of cuisine options, high-end beer, wine, and spirits. Details on additional festival activities similar to last year’s will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Bucking the prevailing trend of ill fated NYC area music festivals, in its inaugural year Governors Ball was a stunning success, drawing over 20,000 attendees to bask in the sun and take in 12 hours of non stop music from artists including Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Big Boi, Neon Indian and Empire of the Sun among others. Founders Entertainment looks forward to building upon this success with Governors Ball 2012.
