Fresh off an incredibly successful year, Derek Vincent Smith (aka Pretty Lights) is ready to give his fans a gift to start the New Year off right- the announcement of his own record label, Pretty Lights Music, which will release free new music in early 2011. Derek’s objectives are simple- he wants to supply his fans, and fans of electronic music at large, with free music from the artists he believes in and supports.

Today, he’s thrilled to announce two new digital releases (in addition to Michael Menert) on Pretty Lights Music, both due out January 25th. Break Science will be releasing their new EP, Further Than Our Eyes Can See, and Paper Diamond will be dropping his debut EP, Levitate.

Raised in the cultural hotbed of New York City, Break Science’s Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee fuse the city’s rich musical legacy- jazz, funk & soul, with a deep-rooted connection to its hip-hop heritage to create their own take on modern electronic music. Break Science’s EP, Further Than Our Eyes Can See, consists of thought-provoking, highly-textured, bass-pumping songs that include verses from some of today’s most conscious artists: Brooklyn’s Talib Kweli and Jahdan Blakkamoore, Sierra Leone’s Bajah and India’s Falu. In addition to Break Science, Adam Deitch also doubles as Pretty Lights’ touring drummer.

Colorado based producer Alex B is rolling out big tunes under the new guise of Paper Diamond in 2011. The Paper Diamond sound has raw energy and the kind of dramatic anticipation only a seasoned producer can incite. Driving beats and bass grab on tight while deep, rich tones rumble under layers of spacey synthesizers, sweet melodies, and catchy vocals. Paper Diamond’s debut EP, Levitate, will be available for free download via Pretty Lights Music on January 25, 2011.

Pretty Lights, aka visionary producer Derek Vincent Smith, is currently in the midst of the West Coast leg of his national tour, which has him in Los Angeles this Friday night at The Wiltern. Now, we have some exciting news- Pretty Lights will be joining the cast of the wildly popular children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! Live earlier that day for a matinee show at the Nokia Theatre, performing as one of the shows’ Super Music Friends!

Besides releasing his trilogy of EP’s this year, Derek Vincent Smith (accompanied by live drummer Adam Deitch) has been busy touring the U.S. and Europe, including many festival appearances and sold-out shows on both sides of the Atlantic. The super-producer has come to be known for his genre-bending beats, which seamlessly blend electronic elements with funk, jazz, hip-hop and classic soul. Combine that with his elaborate, visually-stunning live shows, and you can see why he has captured the attention of music fans worldwide.

He also recently surpassed one million album downloads through his website, where he distributes all of his music for free (although his material is available on iTunes as well). As a thank you to his devoted fans, he surprised his one millionth downloader with a VIP trip to catch him live in Las Vegas!

Pretty Lights also recently announced a New Year’s Even run of shows, taking place at The Congress Theater in Chicago on December 30th and 31st! Supporting the shows will be Major Lazer on the 30th, and Holy Fuck on the 31st.

Pretty Lights has never been one to disappoint- and he’s not about to start now. The enigmatic super-producer has stayed true to his promise of releasing three EP’s in 2010…and deliver, he has! Glowing In The Darkest Night, the third installment of his trilogy of 2010’s EPs, was made available this past Friday, October 22nd via his website, www.PrettyLightsMusic.com.

2010 has been quite an exciting year for Pretty Lights. Besides releasing his trilogy of EP’s, Derek Vincent Smith (accompanied by live drummer Adam Deitch) has been busy touring the U.S. and Europe, including many festival appearances on both sides of the Atlantic. He recently surpassed one million album downloads through his website- not bad for an artist who has only been releasing music since 2008. He even surprised his one millionth downloader with a VIP trip to catch him later this month in Las Vegas!

Pretty Lights is touring extensively to support Glowing In The Darkest Night, with the North American tour kicking off Wednesday in Tulsa, and continuing through early December. The 2010 lineup will once again bring unmatched creative programming that showcases the top artists in a large variety of scenes, including rock, pop, world music, soul, hip-hop and electronic. Like the first two years, major national headliners such as Kings of Leon, Furthur Featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, The Strokes, My Morning Jacket, Phoenix, Social Distortion, Levon Helm and Al Green, will perform alongside the best emerging artists in the world, including Gogol Bordello, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Janelle Monáe, Tokyo Police Club, The Temper Trap, Pretty Lights, Dawes and more. The complete announced lineup is listed below. More acts will be announced soon.

Saturday’s headliners Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, both members of the Grateful Dead, played Golden Gate Park frequently in the late 60′s and early 70′s. Furthur’s headlining slot will mark the first time that Phil Lesh and Bob Weir will perform together again in the Park since Bill Graham’s memorial tribute, ‘Love, Laughter and Music’ in 1991. After three years of non-stop touring off their latest and hugely successful album, Grammy Award-winning band Kings of Leon will play on Sunday evening in Golden Gate Park for the first time ever.

From its inception, Outside Lands has celebrated the four pillars of Bay Area culture – music, food, wine and technology. There is no other festival that honors its home city to such an extent, making it one of the most unique and enjoyable events in the country. The eclectic nature of the music programming extends to the approach festival organizers take to bringing under one “roof” the best in wine and food the region has to offer.
