2012

After a groundbreaking year surging from the underground to become one of 2011’s breakthrough artists, New Jersey indiepop duo THE FRONT BOTTOMS are kicking off the New Year with the announcement of three regional tours supporting Matt Pryor of The Get Up Kids, Kevin Devine, and a co-headlining tour with Mansions (tour dates below). But before they hit the ground running, they are jumping into Philly’s uber-popular non-commercial alternative station WXPN (88.5 FM) for a live, in-studio performance at World Café Live on their Free At Noon show on Friday, January 6th (http://www.xpn.org/concerts-events/free-at-noon). The performance will also be simulcast on NPR here: http://www.npr.org/series/5194329/live-fridays-from-xpn. Additionally, WXPN’s long running program World Café will be featuring a session from the band at a later date to be announced.
The band will then gear up for a co-headlining tour with Mansions, including a homecoming performance at Hoboken, NJ’s legendary Maxwell’s on January 28th. With just enough time to catch their breath, The Front Bottoms will hit the road again at the end of February to support Matt Pryor throughout Boston and Canada, and then jump back in their van one week later to provide direct support for Kevin Devine. The tour launches in Columbus, OH on March 10th, and wraps up in Tucson on March 20th.
Stealthily sneaking into the music scene nearly undetected, The Front Bottoms grew organically throughout the underground. First tackling their local Jersey media like The Jersey Journal (“…quirky love songs with dollops of synths, trumpet, and strings that command your attention”), The Star-Ledger (“It is hard to come away from an encounter with The Front Bottoms without developing protective feelings about the band akin to those that Jonathan Richman’s fans feel about him”) and Aquarian Weekly (“an indie-pop sound similar to that of Piebald with the vocal style of Say Anything… Impressive!”), the band quickly garnered rave reviews from national outlets such as Alternative Press, Filter, All Music Guide, DRUM Magazine, Beyond Race Magazine, AOL, Absolute Punk, Jersey Beat, and Sputnik Music among many others, and even caught the eye of the Los Angeles Times who declared “This is a pop soundtrack for learning to live in the moment.” Their infectious single “Maps” continues to heat up radio charts with support from over 20 commercial rock stations including KROQ in Los Angeles, WRFF Radio 104.5 in Philadelphia, Chicago’s WXRT, and has received key non-commercial spins from WFUV New York, WAPS Akron, and WXPN Philadelphia.
The band’s mercurial ascent hasn’t gone unnoticed by their peers either. Their strong performance at Bamboozle and support slots for Vanessa Carlton, He Is We, Bayside’s Anthony Raneri, and Titus Andronicus among others helped propel them into high profile gigs opening for Hot Rod Circuit and Dashboard Confessional. And just this week, The Front Bottoms were named “Band of the Month: January 2012” by Macbeth Footwear which was co-founded by Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge. 2012 may have just begun, but there’s going to be so much more coming up for these unassuming gents from Jersey.
The Front Bottoms’ self-titled debut was released on September 6th via Bar/None Records. The Front Bottoms is Brian Sella (vocals/guitar) and Matt Uychich (drums, bullhorn), with Drew Villafuerte accompanying the band in live performances.
