The Postelles will support The Kooks on the first leg of the U.K. band’s upcoming North American tour, beginning with a show at the Trocadero in Philadelphia on November 15th and including two sold-out nights at Webster Hall in New York City (11/16, 17). Prior to The Kooks dates, The Postelles will be the main supporting act on The Wombats’ entire U.S. tour, which launches with a CMJ show at Webster Hallon October 19th and concludes at the Crocodile Café in Seattle on November 12th. The Postelles, who recently performed at Atlanta’s Music Midtown Festival (with Coldplay, The Black Keys) and Dave Matthews Band Caravan’s stop at New York City’s Randall’s Island, will also be playing numerous headline shows and festivals between now and the end of the year. See below for itinerary.

In a recent live review, the LA Weekly observed: “[The Postelles] delivered a high-energy, highly-danceable set…laying on the hooks and melodies thick and with unquestionable confidence” while Flavorpill.com praised their “killer live show” and VanityFair.com urged: “everyone go see them on tour.”

Numerous tracks have already been licensed from The Postelles‘ self-titled debut album, which was produced by the band and The Strokes’ Albert Hammond, Jr. “Sound The Alarms” was heard in last week’s season premiere of ABC’s “Revenge” and has also been tapped for EA Sport’s new Need For Speed The Run video game, which will be released in November. “White Night” was used in Fox’s “Raising Hope” and the CW’s “Vampire Diaries” and “90210″ while lead single “123 Stop” was heard in the trailer for the film How Do You Know, which starred Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson.

“Songs like ‘Stella’ and ’123 Stop’ are high-energy power pop,” said Relix while the New York Post put “Boy’s Best Friend” on its list of summer “songs that sizzle.” “The Postelles sound like the wound-up early hours of what will be a long Saturday night on the town,” observed Rolling Stone. “There are elements of both mod and punk, but The Postelles have a sneering attitude all their own.” SPIN praised their “hooked-at-the-gills, head-bobbing rock’n'roll groove” while Blurt noted: “The four-piece is defined by their simplicity, featuring straightforward hooks reminiscent of a bygone era of rock ‘n’ roll.”

The Postelles followed the June release of their full-length album with Summer Undercovers in July. The free digital EP featured covers of The Smith’s “Ask,” Joe Jones’ “California Sun,” Wreckless Eric’s “Whole Wide World” and The Ramones’ “Beat on The Brat.”

Formed in high school, The Postelles – comprising Daniel Balk (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), David Dargahi (vocals/lead guitar), John Speyer (bass) and Billy Cadden (percussion) – began playing shows around Manhattan when they were high school seniors. On the strength of theirWhite Night EP, also co-produced by Albert Hammond, Jr., they toured with Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, Interpol, The Kills, The Wombats and Free Energy. They’ve played such major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo (twice), All Points West and Iceland Airwaves, performed at The Who Tribute Concert at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and recently supported the legendary Chuck Berry.

Coming to the US shores for the first time, Escape to New York is the first pop-up destination community and independent experiential music and lifestyle festival to take place on Shinnecock Nation land adjacent to Southampton, New York, from August 5th through 7th, 2011.

Expect the unexpected. Imagine the unimaginable. This special event is unlike anything the east coast has experienced before including the world’s biggest brunch at a live music festival, installation and performance art, experimental theater, high-end camping, aka “Glamping” and amazing culinary delights unlike any other festival event. Escape to New York will also feature a safe children play area so families can enjoy the festivities, shade areas to cool off in, traditional Shinnecock arts and crafts and food, and three days/nights of some of the best emerging artists and known heritage acts to be heard anywhere.

“Our goal is turn upside down the conventional music festival experience and recreate it in a way that makes each and every attendee walk away feeling they just had an incredibly unexpected and amazing VIP experience from the moment they entered our gates all the way through to when they pack up to return to their regular lives”, shares Escape to New York Executive Producer, Fred Fellowes.

The location of Escape to New York on the sovereign Shinnecock Reservation land is also unique. The Shinnecocks have lived along the shores of Eastern Long Island for thousands of years, and in October 2010 became the 565th federally recognized tribe.

Thus upon entering the reservation you are both in and escaping New York.

“The Shinnecock Nation welcomes the Escape to New York festival that will take here in August and we are working closely with the festival team to assure a success,” says Beverly Jensen, Shinnecock Tribe Member and Communications Director.

After much anticipation and a misadventure with a major label, The Postelles’ eponymous debut album will be released by +1 Records on June 7th. The record, co-produced by band and The Strokes’ Albert Hammond, Jr., exudes a raw exuberance that places the New York City-based quartet in an ideological lineage that can be traced back to such 50′s and early 60′s icons as Buddy Holly and Sam Cooke and winds all the way through The Velvet Underground, the Ramones, Blondie and the Walkmen – artists with disparate sensibilities but a common allegiance to the unabashedly unadorned rock song.

Rolling Stone has described The Postelles as “sounding like the wound-up early hours of what will be a long Saturday night on the town” while Q Magazine extolled their “sheer charm and melodies that hook their way into your synapses and refuse to let go.” Entertainment Weekly praised the band’s “sunny garage-bop sound” and Spin noted: “[The Postelles] serve up a hooked-at-the-gills, head-bobbing rock’n'roll groove. And nowhere is their sound as refined as on ’123 Stop,’ the band’s swaying new single.”

“123 Stop” has already been heard in the trailer for How Do You Know, which starred Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson, while “White Night,” another track from the album, was tapped by Fox’s “Raising Hope” and the CW’s “Vampire Diaries” and “90210.” The video for “White Night” entered rotation at mtvU, MTV2 and Music Choice and was named “Video of the Day” by Fuse and Paper. “Sleep on the Dance Floor,” The Postelles’ latest video, was directed by filmmaker Tracy Antonopoulos. The video features a slew of talented kids you might recognize, including Jemina Pearl and Cassie Coane, and was just premiered today by Nylon. A free audio download of “Sleep on the Dance Floor” is available for a limited time at www.thepostelles.com.

Formed in high school, The Postelles – comprising Daniel Balk (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), David Dargahi (vocals/lead guitar), John Speyer (bass) and Billy Cadden (percussion) – were playing shows around Manhattan by the time they were seniors. Along the way, they ran into Albert Hammond, Jr., who provided encouragement and co-produced their debut EP, White Night. The EP created a buzz both in the States and in the U.K., where influential Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe began playing the title track. Soon they were touring with the likes of The Kills, Vampire Weekend, The Wombats and Jack Penate, playing major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo (twice) and CMJ and performing at The Who Tribute Concert at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Seeking to capture the energy of their live shows on their full-length album, they headed back into the studio with Hammond in 2010.

Then – just before their sold-out show at The Bowery Ballroom – they were unceremoniously dropped by the major label that had signed them. Undeterred, The Postelles played and the following week went on to tour with Kings of Leon, Interpol, Free Energy and even recently supported the legendary Chuck Berry at a St. Louis show. They inked a deal with +1 Records, the indie label that introduced you to The Morning Benders and The Heavy, and recorded one new track, “Sound the Alarms,” for the collection, which has also been remastered. (See below for the full track listing.)

Through it all, The Postelles have remained focused on one goal: “You know that feeling when you’re out and everybody is talking and that one song comes on that brings you to another place?” asks Daniel Balk. “That’s the feeling I get when I’m in a bar or at a house party and a great song comes on. I stop, just listen, and think, ‘damn this is so good’. I hope our music will have that effect on people.”

Stay tuned…tour dates will be announced soon!
