Described by Kerrang! as “Confidently blending elements of hardcore volatility, lounge-like creepiness and air soundscapes, it makes for a whole that somehow just works” The Big Deep has taken this veteran band to new heights. The Sleeping finished out the year with a live performance on Philadelphia’s NBC 10 Morning Show only to kick off 2011 with long-time friends Bayside and Terrible Things.

“This Bayside/Terrible Things Tour is something we are very excited about. Bayside are some of our best friends and we have known Fred and Josh from Terrible Things for a long time. We admire both of those bands as musicians and as people. It’s always a great thing to share the stage with musicians that you highly respect. “-Said Vocalist Douglas Robinson

The shores of Long Island, NY have been known for producing some of the most influential names in rock. Taking Back Sunday, Brand New and many others have been born into notoriety out of that scene. Just as it looked like all hope was lost and every band was becoming faded carbon copies of one another, The Sleeping came along and shook things up by putting sincerity and originality back into underground rock.

After self-releasing their first full length album Believe What We Tell You (OneDaySavior, 2004), Chicago’s Victory Records immediately took notice of the band and their ever growing fan base and hard worth ethic. Shortly thereafter, the label signed The Sleeping to its roster. Since 2004, the band have released two other albums (Questions And Answers & What It Takes) and solidified themselves as one of the hardest working tour acts performing with everyone from A Day To Remember, Hollywood Undead, Atreyu, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin, Reliant K, Plain White T’s, Senses Fail, Hawthorne Heights and countless others.

This Tuesday, September 28th, the band will release their fourth album, The Big Deep, on Victory Records. The album is a major leap forward for the band, and lead singer Doug Robinson couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.

“A lot of what makes The Big Deep different from our other releases is the fact that when we approached this record we approached it with no expectations other than wanting to improve ourselves, not only musically, but individually as well,” stated Robinson. “We were all facing major changes in our lives and we wanted this record to be an in your face rock album that digs directly under your skin. In my mind, The Big Deep is for everyone who has been through it all and still fighting to get it right.”

The band also found their writing for this record turning even more personal than they had in the past. “Lyrically, songs like ‘Oh, Gloria’, which is about my mother, show how personal this record is for me. I’ve always been personal on all of our records while giving the listener a chance to relate. This time I did the same thing but dove into it far deeper. The last year and a half of my life is all on this record. I want the listener to hear that, but also be able to connect with the material on its own.”

As always, The Sleeping will be hitting the road in support of their new album with upcoming shows with Finger Eleven, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Tides Of Man and PM Today. A full current tour schedule is listed below.

About the Band:

THE SLEEPING have gone bigger, better, and bolder than ever before and intend to ignite the rock universe with their latest endeavor, The Big Deep. Priding themselves on bending genres and breaking new ground with their influential fusion of hardcore post-punk and melodic indie-rock, THE SLEEPING have organically created a remarkable record with honest and raw passion that is often absent from modern-day artists.

Spawning their way from the 2003 music scene in Long Island, NY and amongst bands such as Taking Back Sunday and Brand New, their late 2004 signing to VICTORY RECORDS was the catalyst that sparked the band’s success. Following with releases such as Believe What We Tell You, Questions and Answers, and What It Takes, THE SLEEPING have prevailed as one of Victory’s hardest-working and most-loved acts.

The band spent two summer months approaching a style of writing that they’ve rarely explored; THE SLEEPING packed up and headed to Woodstock, New York. “We experienced Woodstock in a tourist world. I would wake up every morning and feed chickens, hens and a 1000 pound pig” claims Douglas (vocals).

One of the band’s greatest strengths is their tight-knit sense of family they seem to incorporate into their music. Vocalist Douglas Robinson, drummer Joe Zizzo, bassist Sal Mignano, guitarist Paul Cadena and keyboardist Chris Evans are more like brothers than band mates and it is no surprise that when it came time to writing The Big Deep, the band gathered together, shedding their hearts, souls, fears and joys. Douglas says “The last record was produced in an urban-city-like-almost-too-familiar-mid-winter setting, leaving little room for inspiration. We would all hang out, but there was so much to do that we’d separate. In Woodstock, we’d hear about something, and we’d all hop on our bikes and ride out to see it together.”

Perhaps it was this culture shock of re-visiting an old town in a new season, in addition to the organized chaos, that formed the sound and feel for the record; but the lyrics came from an entirely different mind set. Last year, in the wake of heartbreak, Douglas set out, temporarily moving his entire life from New York to LA, in hopes to find himself, and figure out how to live the rest of his life. “I wrote a lot on the way there, and I wrote a lot on the way back. Even in Woodstock, I only went home once. I literally had cabin fever. The guys would go home on the weekends and it gave me time to do nothing but just think.” Symbolic of the time spent traveling, learning and writing, the cover art showcases a suitcase of belongings, giving a new meaning to ‘baggage.’

The Woodstock recording experience provoked rejuvenation, allowing each member to learn each other as if it was their first time meeting. The outcome is a restructured army, revisiting producers Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner to strengthen an even tighter unit. Spewing with maturity and growth, this album is a journey of the mind and of the body. It’s a story of finding out who you are and where you belong before you become truly lost forever. This record is a meltdown of emotions with a vibe that digs deep into your ears and most importantly, your heart.

The Big Deep is available on September 28th, 2010.
