JANUS hit the road last month to get the buzz started about the September 22 release of their debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN (REALID Records, through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group), which will keep them on the road throughout the remainder of 2009. Now comes word that new dates for the Chicago band—with Framing Hanley and The Veer Union–have been added to their itinerary, which will last from October 8 through October 27.

The album’s first single, “Eyesore,” is currently spinning on over 20 Rock radio stations nationwide, including KBPI/Denver, KQRC/Kansas City, WJJO/Madison, KXFX/Santa Rosa and KISW/Seattle, and is most requested on Q101/Chicago, KPNT/St. Louis and WWBN/Flint. A video for the track—directed by Noah Shulman (Sleepless City Productions)–has over a half a million views this summer and can now be seen on the band’s Myspace page (www.myspace.com/janus).

Also, JANUS has been selected as the “Rock Artist To Watch” on iheartradio.com for the month of September. The band’s page can be found at http://www.iheartradio.com/new2/featured/f/2288.

RED RIGHT RETURN is a collection of ten seamlessly flowing tracks that showcase the band’s ability to bring the Rock world an intelligent fresh sound. JANUS’ debut harkens back to the days when albums were written as a total piece of work, as opposed to a group of single songs. The Chicago natives recorded, produced, created all the themes, digital presence, and artwork on their own. Lyrically, the songs have very strong universal underpinnings to real life experiences. While they tell a particular story, the end result is left open to interpretation and the listener is free to draw their own conclusions.

In an early review of RED RIGHT RETURN, Absolutepunk.net raved: “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm. JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band. If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.” The Wildy’s World blog calls it “…a brilliant Rock-based soundscape…” and Blogcritics.org hails it as a “…diamond in the rough.”

Check out JANUS–David Scotney (vocals), Johnny Salazar (percussion), Alan Quitman (bass), Mike Tyranski (guitar/programming)–at any of the following stops:

The Audio Perv had a chance to ask a few questions to a great new up and coming hard rock band, The Veer Union. Read below to see the band talk about what inspires them, how they got their name, their new video for “Seasons” and what you can expect to see on their rider.

The Audio Perv A lot of your songs are about hope and rising past despair. Take us back to before the band was formed. What was going on in your life that had you in such a dark place?

The Veer Union Before TVU we were all in places we didn’t want to be in, playing music for all the wrong reasons. We wanted to come together as a “Union” and “Veer” away from all the negativity. A good example of rising past despair is Seasons. That song is all about starting over, making the best of what you’re given.

The Audio Perv What or who inspired you to change?

The Veer Union We were all just tired of all the negativity from the previous projects we were in. We wanted to play music for all the right reasons.

The Audio Perv The band has an upcoming video shoot for the song “Seasons”. Any idea or plans on the story for the video?

The Veer Union We actually just flew in yesterday from shooting it in Pittsburgh. An amazing experience. Steven Hoover is a brilliant. As far as ideas and plans, you’ll just have to wait and check it when it comes out!

The Audio Perv You have a hit single “Seasons” spinning on the radio as well as being featured on WWE television shows and Pay Per Views. You’re on tour with Hinder, Theory Of A Deadman, and Black Stone Cherry. You guys have clearly arrived. Do you have a rider and what’s the most ridiculous thing on it?

The Veer UnionTo be honest, we don’t have the biggest rider. Most bands ask for nice vodka, rum or jager, but we ask for the biggest and cheapest bottles of vodka they can find. It does the trick!

Who knew that the best new rock band of 2009 would be coming out of Vancouver, Canada?! The Veer Union, formed by two longtime friends and neighbors Crispin Earl (vocals) and Eric Schraeder (guitar), is a hard rock group thats a huge favorite amongst Radio PDs and MDs. The band has played with rock bands like Seether, Hinder, Theory Of A Deadman, The Killers and much more.

Crispin Earl describes his friendship with Eric Schraeder that helped start the band:
“We had played in bands together and we were both living out of our rehearsal studios in downtown East Vancouver.” Already entrenched in the Vancouver scene, both Earl and Schraeder would each succeed in the music business with Earl writing songs for Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee’s solo album “Tommyland” as well as Schraeder playing with the popular band 40 Foot Echo (Hollywood Records). After several months of writing together, the guys would recruit Marc Roots (Roots) and James Fiddler (Fid) to play bass and guitar respectively. To complete the package, the band would bring on Neal Beaton, their former drum tech, to take over on the skins.

The Veer Union’s debut album “Against The Grain” (April 21st – Universal Motown Records) was mainly produced by Greg Archilla (Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, Buckcherry) and a few tracks were produced by Brian Howes (Hinder, Hedley, Daughtry and Rev Theory). Both producers help to bring out The Veer Union’s raw energy on the emotional track “Over Me” while making sure to showcase the strength and range of Crispin’s voice on a song like “Seasons”. Yes, this band is hard rock but they sound great live. They kind of remind me of Sevendust but I think that they have a chance at becoming much bigger than them!
