Keeping with their 60s pop sound and feel, the new video from The Young Veins “Take A Vacation!” is no exception!

Using John Lennon Revolution guitars, polaroids and hard shell suitcases you would think this video was taken right out of a page of music history. The colors, clothing and everything showcase the uniqueness of the band while bringing you back to a different time.

The new band, The Young Veins, have recently released their debut album “Take A Vacation” and did a roof top concert to promote the album. I got to be one of the lucky few to take in the empire state building as a backdrop to the dreamy 60’s pop inspired ensemble.

Even though this band is in its infancy, it can boast music veterans among its line up with Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, formerly of Panic! at the Disco sharing the vocal duties. Each also play guitar for the band in addition to Andy Soukal on bass, Nick White on the keyboard, and Nick Murray on the drums.

You can tell that the sound that influenced PATD’s last album, The Beatles, is still heavily influencing this new project. It has a dreamy, hazy vibe to it with funky bass lines intermittently cropping up throughout the album.

Even as they performed the kept the aesthetic in line with the sound with skinny suits and shaggy hair, it was groovy all around.

Just like its inspiration, the band’s sound is poppy and fun and great for the summer. It was fitting that this event be held outside on a warm summer’s night (with an open bar). It made for the perfect theme for the evening. The only way that it could be better is if it were the soundtrack to a Frankie and Annette movie, or maybe one of those old Elvis movies. Either way you get my gist. They’re totally the bee’s knees (did they say that in the 60s?).

You should buy the album, or even better — see a show; you will be happy you did. They tell fun stories in between songs. They are quite likeable and it’s good clean fun. I believe there was even an Otis Redding cover during the night.

They are fully committed to the sound and aesthetic of this long gone era, which I think is refreshing in contrast to the constant revival of the 80s (let it die already). It is bubblegum pop at its best, in the original form. It’s quite brilliant.

On Tuesday, July 20th, The Young Veins will perform songs from their recently released album Take a Vacation! on the rooftop of Atlas New York, at 66 West 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The Young Veins are part of Gotham’s fourth annual OpenA.I.R: Artist In Residence concert series, which kicks off next week. Gotham has infused new meaning into the phrase ‘Artist In Residence’ by offering Atlas New York’s 48th floor Sky Terrace as an alternative and original music venue for up-and-coming and major label artists, with the Empire State Building as the perfect backdrop. Last year’s series included a performance by Lady Gaga.

Primarily the musical project of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker from Panic! At The Disco, The Young Veins recently released their acclaimed debut album Take A Vacation!. Produced by Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet) and Rob Mathes (Panic!, Carly Simon, Lou Reed), this collection of songs brilliantly re-imagines some of the most enduring musical styles of the ‘60s, including surf rock, psychedelia and brit-pop. Laced in a dreamy California spirit, Take A Vacation! exudes warmth and joyful energy, but it is Ryan and Jon’s undeniable knack for songcraft that makes these songs irresistible. This exclusive live event comes at the end of a wildly successful summer U.S. tour with Rooney.

For this event, The Young Veins are teaming up with Oxfam America, a non-profit organization that is known for collaborating with musicians and bands like Coldplay, WILCO, and Arcade Fire to create a global movement to overcome poverty and injustice.

The press raves:
“…equal parts salty and sweet, heavily indebted to the past, unbelievably catchy… In other words, it’s pretty much everything I could ask for in a rock record, and then some.” MTV

“The Young Veins has legs of its own to stand on. And arteries that are chock-full with the blood of past masters.” – SPIN Magazine

Inspired by 60′s pop influences, Ryan Ross and Jon Walker decided that they would throw away their pop/emo theatrics that defined them in Panic! and strip themselves down to a raw, classic rock sound. During the recording of their second album in Panic! Ross and Walker began writing together, taking in influences one would not have expected. They split from Panic! in late July of last year, focusing on their new project, The Young Veins. Drawing influences from The Kinks, The Byrds, and The Beatles, these guys are letting go of their days of tour buses and glam lifestyle to riding around in their tour van, selling their own merchandise.

The Young Veins’ debut album, Take a Vacation!, is out on June 8th via One Haven Music. On release day, the band will be in Los Angeles to perform at famed independent record store, Origami Vinyl, for a special street date appearance.

The Young Veins have announced summer touring plans that will kick off with a set at Bonnaroo on June 11th. The band will then hit the road for a coast to coast tour with Rooney. Lead single “Change” can be downloaded now at the band’s website http://www.theyoungveins.com/ . The full album can be pre-ordered now here: http://www.theyoungveins.com/preorder .

Following closely in the verve of pop-tunesmiths of yesteryear, the California-based 5 piece consists of Ryan Ross on vocals and guitar (Panic! at the Disco), Jon Walker on vocals and guitar (Panic! at the Disco), Andy Soukal on bass, Nick White (Bright Eyes, Tilly and The Wall) on keyboards and Nick Murray on drums. Primarily the writing project of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, The Young Veins was created when the two members of the wildly popular Las Vegas band Panic! at the Disco exhibited a writing progression that began to fall increasingly outside the lines of the band’s context. After their last world tour for Pretty. Odd, Ross and Walker took their new material to Castle Oak Studios and Sunset Sound in LA, teaming up with producers Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet) and Rob Mathes (Panic!, Carly Simon, Loud Reed). The result, Take A Vacation!, features guest vocals and instrumentation by fellow Angelenos Chief , Alex Greenwald, The Like and Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley). The LP embraces archetypal styles of the 60’s with inflected elements of surf rock, psychedelia, and brit-pop, all of which translate effortlessly into the live setting.
