MTV has just announced that fuzz-rock band Wavves will serve as the guest composer for the first season of the network’s new scripted comedy series, “I Just Want My Pants Back.” In addition, music legend Nic Harcourt will serve as music supervisor for the series. The pilot episode, which is airing as a sneak peek following the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards,” on August 28, at 11 p.m. ET/PT, will feature the exclusive world premiere of their new song “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl.” The series will officially debut on MTV in January 2012. Read the Billboard story here.

Wavves’ new EP, “Life Sux” will be released by Wavves’ label Ghost Ramp on Tuesday, September 20th and features “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl,” as well as collaborations with Best Coast and members of the band F*cked Up.

As guest composer throughout the MTV series, Wavves will have 20 original compositions as well as songs from their unreleased EP (name of album?). Following the sneak peek on Sunday night, viewers can visit www.soundtrack.mtv.com for a free download of “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl” and a list of all Wavves songs featured in the show.

From acclaimed director and executive producer Doug Liman (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith, “Swingers,” “Go,” “Bourne Identity”) and based upon David J. Rosen’s critically acclaimed novel of the same name, “I Just Want My Pants Back” follows a group of friends as they navigate the minefield of their post-collegiate years. The series will feature 12 half-hour episodes.

Struggling with sex, love, career and friendship as a young twenty-something living in Brooklyn, the series follows Jason Strider, played by Peter Vack. Jason puts hanging with his friends, going to bars and hooking up above his entry level job where he’s the lowest rung at a casting agency, and dreams of being in music journalism…but has no idea how to get there. It’s not until a one night stand steals his heart and his pants, that he begins a quest to get his beloved jeans back, and hopefully the girl, while also growing up along the way.

The series also stars Kim Shaw as Jason’s best friend ‘Tina;’ Jordan Carlos as ‘Eric’ and Elisabeth Hower as ‘Stacey,’ college sweethearts making it go of it as couple as they forge into their adult years; Sunkrish Bala as ‘Bobby’ the owner of the local bodega and will guest star Chris Parnell as ‘J.B.,’ Jason’s no-nonsense boss at the casting agency.

“I Just Want My Pants Back” is based on the book by David J. Rosen. The series a co-production with Universal Cable Productions. The pilot was written by Rosen and directed by Doug Liman. Justin Levy, Clay Spencer and Polly Auritt are the executives in charge of production for MTV. Executive producers include Liman, David Bartis and Rosen. Gene Klein is co-executive producer.

Also, be sure to catch Wavves backing up GZA, the legendary founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, on Fuel TV’s “The Daily Habit” tonight at 8pm PST / 11pm EST. They will be performing GZA’s classic tune “Liquid Swords”.

L.A.’s Wavves follow up their 2010 skuzz-pop masterstroke King of the Beach with Life Sux, the debut release from singer Nathan Williams’ Ghost Ramp label. If the band’s previous records were all about one man’s self-loathing, this six-song EP takes that sentiment and generously expands it outward, telling the tale of two loathsome characters locked down in Bummertown. What follows is a downward spiral of wrecked cars, impossible dreams and fading faith set to pop-damaged punk and squalling grunge, and featuring collaborations with musical BFFs Best Coast and Fucked Up. Also, it’s fucking fun, though in Williams’ words, “If you hate yourself and other people, you might like our record.”

Williams has come a long way from his parents’ San Diego pool house, where Wavves was born during a jobless bout in 2008. A series of small-run 7-inches and tapes paved the way to the buzz-building self- titled and semi-self-titled LPs Wavves (Woodsist, 2008) and Wavvves (Fat Possum, 2009). Both were praised for their inimitable brand of experimental surf skronk and lo-fi loser anthems, notably swathed in pot smoke and isolation. King of the Beach, recorded in Mississippi with producer Dennis Herring (Animal Collective, Modest Mouse), kept that blessed spirit alive but displayed a set of fuzzed up, fleshed out confections, and found Wavves expanded to a ripping trio, including current bassist Stephen Pope.

Produced by the band and recorded at Infrasonic Sound in nearby Alhambra, Life Sux picks up where the last album left off: at that rare intersection where form meets friction. Opener “Bug” is an upbeat bomb lobbed at any enemies of fun-a thesis statement driven by Dino Jr. guitars and a pop-punk bass line. The blisteringly bright “I Wanna Be Dave Grohl” offers an arena-sized appeal to everyman excellence, while “Nodding Off” finds that escape fantasy failing even as Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino coos sweetly over the encroaching grime. “Poor Lenore” is heavier and darker, awash in wasteland riffage àla Nirvana, and “Destroy” is severe, with Fucked Up and Wavves teaming up to thrash in vain against a crushing apathy.

Life Sux closes with “In the Sand,” a longtime touring favorite recorded live at Black Iris Music in L.A. with drummer Jacob Cooper. Surfy, smashy and brash, the song is a fitting finale and despite itself, offers up a near moral before careening into silence. After establishing his ennui, Williams offers up faintly glimmering hope in the midst of inertia: “Do what you wanted to do / It’s all up to you.” Fittingly, the launch of Ghost Ramp embodies this slacker-made-good philosophy. Working with other people’s labels was a means to an end. Finished with the red tape, false promises and general bogusness, Wavves is now a movement unto itself, going direct to fans and friends everywhere.

Southern California indie garage-pop band Wavves just released the new music video for their Green Label Sound single “Post Acid.” Fans may watch the video and download the free mp3 for “Post Acid” at GreenLabelSound.com now.

The “Post Acid” video was shot in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. Acclaimed DIY photographer/filmmaker Patrick O’Dell directed. Patrick O’Dell, who is best known for his short-form documentary series Epicly Later’d, has also directed music videos for Morrissey and Panda Bear. O’Dell’s “Post Acid” video features friend and professional skateboarder Kevin “Spanky” Long as the alien who befriends the band and embarks on a raucous, fun-filled day of skateboarding, hanging out, and playing a party gig.

When asked about the concept for the video, Wavves’ Nathan Williams said “I’m glad I finally got to fulfill my dream of ripping off the premise of the movie Encino Man… except we replaced the caveman with a skateboarding alien!”

“I love it when a band comes up with something totally bizarre and ambitious rather than shrugging and saying ‘I don’t know, what do you wanna do?’ as they mope around looking cool,” O’Dell comments. “I feel like we’ve almost made one of those fan videos where an anonymous person out there cuts up a movie they like and fits it together with a song they like and uploads it to YouTube. This is one of those videos, but the band just happens to star in the movie.”

The new, original track is the first single off the band’s highly anticipated forthcoming full-length King Of The Beach and is the second official single release for Green Label Sound this year. The Wavves album, King Of The Beach is due out August, 3rd 2010 on Fat Possum Records.

Recorded at Sweet Tea Recording studio in Oxford, Mississippi, “Post Acid” was written by Wavves and production was guided by studio owner Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, The Hives, Ben Folds, Mutemath). “Post Acid” will be available June 9, 2010 as a free download exclusively at GreenLabelSound.com. Wavves lead man, Nathan Williams, had this to say about the Green Label Sound single release, “First off and foremost it’s a chance to give away free music. ‘Post Acid’ was written and recorded as a true pop song to me and in doing so I knew that I would want it to be heard on as wide a scale as possible. Green Label Sound is helping us to do that.”
