Mom + Pop Records is set to release the soundtrack to the new indie film Norman October 11. Fresh off numerous awards on the festival circuit including the Silver Hugo New Directors Competition at the Chicago International Film Festival, Grand Prize for Best Feature and Best Actor award for Dan Byrd at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and Best Actress for Emily VanCamp at the San Diego Film Festival, Norman is to be released on October 21 nationally in six major markets including New York, Los Angeles, Spokane, Chicago, Boston and Seattle. The film, directed by Jonathan Segal, centers around Norman Long, a self-aware and darkly funny teen who’s just trying to handle his daily high school existence. An unexpected set of life changing circumstances spins his world upside down and then ultimately right side up. With love, humility and truth he emerges to face challenges not meant for a boy his age.

Chicago-based film score composer, multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. As a teen Bird became interested in a variety of styles including early jazz, country blues and gypsy music, synthesizing them into his unique brand of pop. Since beginning his recording career in 1997 he has released 11 albums, his first solo record Weather Systems coming in 2003. Bird has gone on to record with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Most recently he collaborated with inventor Ian Schneller on Sonic Arboretum, an installation at New York’s Guggenheim Museum, and released Fingerlings 4, a collection of solo live recordings from December, 2009. Bird will release a new full-length album on Mom + Pop records in early 2012.
